imagine: after two years, jisung returns to seoul, but he doesn't return alone.

y/n's pov

it's been two years since you last saw jisung. of course, you called each other as often as you could, but lately he seemed to be busy with other commitments. he made new friends, he was out most nights enjoying himself in america, but you missed him.

you sat in your bed, staring at your phone as you grinned at the message jisung had sent you

jisung:

i'm in seoul. come see me.

you jumped, feeling giddy at the message he'd sent you. he mentioned coming to seoul for a month or so, but you didn't know he was already here.

a few hours later, you'd gotten ready and headed out to meet jisung at the old cafe you used to hang out at. you rushed, excited to finally see him again. it was two years too long.

you twiddled your fingers around the necklace, the one that jisung had given you with his name engraved. you never took it off, it was a reminder to you that jisung was always there. in all honesty, you still loved him. and you tried to tell him everyday, but you thought that today would be the perfect day now that he's back in seoul.

you took a seat inside the cafe, your latte sat in front of you with your fingertips just grazing the mug. for a second, you thought you were seeing things. you noticed jisung outside the cafe, his fingers intertwined with... a girl.

he entered the cafe, smiling widely as he noticed you staring. you took off from your seat, rushing over to him with open arms. jisung carried you in his arms and held you tightly, taking in the scent of your hair just as he always did. he smiled at the familiar scent of the shampoo, you'd used it for years and he loved it.

"when did you get back?" you rushed, taking his hand and leading him to your table.

"we flew into seoul earlier this morning," jisung smiled, releasing your hand from his and taking someone else's.

you stared, seemingly confused. but as you watched the way he looked at her, you understood quite quickly.

"y/n, this is my girlfriend," he smiled, ruffling her hair.

after two years, he never once mentioned someone else coming into his life. perhaps she was the reason he had been so busy...

"it's lovely to meet you, jisung talks nonstop about how much he misses you," the girl giggled, taking your hand and shaking it.

she was formal.

you smiled briefly back at her, and offered her a seat at the table. of course, she'd take the one beside jisung. you couldn't help but notice how he continuously held her hand in his, it was as though they were inseparable. and in your eyes, they clearly were.

"jisung, you never mentioned a..." you paused, chewing your cheek at the word, "girlfriend."

he looked over at her and grinned, "it's only been a few months. we haven't really been public about it, i thought you should be the first to know."

your smile turned sad, "thanks."

he turned to look at you, and noticed how desperate you looked. "how are you?" he asked, genuine concern hiding in his eyes. "you look well," jisung finally smiled again.

"yeah," you nodded, staring into your lap, "i'm good. great, actually," you let a small chuckle leave your lips before brushing your fingers over them, taking a deep breath. "how's america?"

he shrugged, "i miss home. i miss being here. i miss you."

you took a single glance at his girlfriend, and she didn't seem to appreciate his honesty. she glared, but kept her mouth shut. it bothered her, but it put a smile on your face.

"i missed you, too." you returned his words, and smiled gently at him.

he couldn't help but stare at you, acknowledging the way you smiled. he'd missed your smile more than anything. and he couldn't help but feel guilty for letting you go so easily.

"do you mind if i use the bathroom?" jisung's girlfriend placed a kiss on his cheek and left the two of you alone.

the second she left your sight, you glanced uncomfortably at jisung, gulping as you did so.

he gazed at the pendant around your neck, smiling at his engraved name. "you still wear it?"

you looked down at it, twiddling it between your fingers, "of course. always."

"look, y/n," he started, leaning closer to take your hands in his, "i'm sorry. i never meant to-"

"what?" you raised a brow, "you started a new life. without me. i'm not mad at you, or upset," you smiled, trying to rid your mind of the feelings that still lingered for him. "i'm glad you're happy."

"y/n," he said your name again, exhaling deeply and gripping tighter onto your hands, "i missed you. so much."

"i know," you lowered your head, "i know, you did. but you don't have to anymore. i'm okay."

"i mean-"

"i don't need you anymore, jisung." you regretted the words that fell from your lips instantly. "i'm happy, now."

"y-you are?" he stuttered.

you nodded, "i'm better. i feel... better."

you lied.

"i just need you to know that i'll always love you and treasure you. whether i'm with someone else or not, you'll always be special to me. that's all you need to know," he dropped your hands onto the table, leaning back, regret in his eyes. "i'm sorry things turned out this way."

you shrugged with a light smile, "you fell in love."

"but i was already in love."
