I hadn't thought of Shadow again until a week later. I was at the Grill, waiting in a booth for Jeremy, when I looked up and he was sitting in front of me.

"Creepy much?" I said, shaking my head.

"It's what I'm good at." he said, flashing a smile.

"Obviously." I said. "Wait, let me guess, the next thing your going to say is 'I know where you live' right?"

"No." he replyed.

"Good." I said.

"But I do know where you live."

"Oh my God." I said.

He flashed a smile again.

"At least you havn't been having visions about me." he said. He grinned cockily. "I don't know if you've dreamt about me though. You probably have."

"You are unbelievable." I sighed. "And how do you know I haven't been having visions about you?"

"Because I plant them there." he said.

"How in the-" I started, but stopped.

"What are you?" I asked.

"Not human, that's for sure." he said.

"Don't play games with me Shadow." I said, narrowing my eyes.

"Whoa, someones angry today." he said.

"I'm not angry, I'm just not in the mood." I said, "So, again, what are you?"

"It's complicated."

"I'm a smart person, I'm sure I can figure it out." I said.

He seemed to hesitate for a moment. "I'm a cross breed.

"Like a mule?" I asked.

"I don't really like to be compared with a mule, but yes kind of like a mule." he said.

"And your crossed between?" I said, urging him to answer.

"I'm half vampire, half witch." he said.

There was a moments silence.

"Is that even possible?" I asked. I was shocked. I didn't even know magical creatures could cross breed.

"Yes, but I'm the only one that I know of." he said.

"How?" I asked.

"My mother was a witch, and my father was a vampire." he said. "Vampires having kids had never been heard of, but it happened."

"How long have you been alive for?" I asked.

"A couple of hundred years." he said.

My mouth dropped. "But if your half witch, how are you still the same age?"

"See, unlike vampires, I can choose when I want to stop aging. I chose 17, because it seemed like a logical age." he said.

"Whoa." I said. "Where are your parents now?"

"My father was staked, and my mother was burned." he said, no emotion showing in his face.

"I'm so sorry." I said.

"Don't be." he said. "It happened centuries ago, I'm over it."

"Shadow, my parents were murdered over a century ago too. And I stiil miss them everyday. So don't give me that crap about being over it."

He studied me for a moment. "Your right. I'm not over it. But I can't spend my time not being over it eather. So it's easer blocking out the pain."

"How old were you when it happened?" I asked.

"Fifteen, you?" he asked.

"Thirteen."

"Where did you go after they were gone?" he asked.

"Damons family took me in. That's why me and the Salvatore brothers are so close."

"Ah, Damon Salvatore. I've heard about him." he said.

"What have you heard?"I asked.

"That he's very dangerous. And to not mess with him unlees you want to die. I mean, sure, I'm a lot older than him, but I'm half witch so he could beat me easily."

"Hmm."

"Marni!" I look over to see Jeremy coming over.

"Jeremy! Hey, where have you been?"

"Sorry, I got caught up." he said. He looked at Shadow."Who's this?"

"This is Shadow, and he was just leaving." I said, glaring at him.

"Fine! I can take a hint." Shadow said, hopping up and going to walk away.

"Oh, and Marni?" he said turning back. "Happy birthday for next week."

He flashed a smile and disappeared through the doors.

I groaned. I had completely forgot about my birthday.
