May 11th, 2017:

We were in Japan doing various schedules. Today we had a TV interview and a release event. I was woken up earlier than usual from my phone vibrating around on the nightstand, it had been going all night and I was finally fed up. I groan rolling over to see what was going on. I instantly wake up upon seeing several messages from friends sending me condolences for my grandfather. I was confused about how they came to find out until I got to my sister's texts. She had sent an Allkpop article with a clickbait article title of "BTS Y/N's Dangerous Family Secret".

I clicked on it to read what looked like a short article.

BTS Y/N's Grandfather Revealed to Be a Murderer

It has been revealed that BTS Y/N's grandfather, on her dad's side, has recently passed. Fans were obviously saddened by the news. However, it was quickly found out that her grandfather, Yvan Fortin, is a convicted criminal. Government documents show that in 1979, Mr. Fortin was sentenced to three years in jail for manslaughter. No details are known about the event, but it is known that Mr. Fortin served his full three years before his release.

Y/N has still been attending all scheduled group activities and did not attend the funeral. Nor did she or Big Hit release any statement. Some speculate it was to save face while others believe she did not have a relationship with her grandfather given she has never mentioned him when she has mentioned her other grandfather on her mother's side. Either way, most find it hard to believe that Y/N is related to a murderer. Our wishes are with her during these hard times.

I scroll down to see the comments, baffled at not only the news itself but how the news came out. My best guess was Canadian ARMYs had seen it in the obituary in the newspaper and done some pretty easy digging given how government documents were accessible to anyone. While this was just as much a shock to me as fans, it was something I could believe for some reason. My dad never had a nice word to say about him and there had to be a reason their relationship soured.

ArianaTHoward: How could she not have known? Like wtf?

Multistan20192: Does it really matter if she knew or not? Like what was she supposed to do about it?

KateKim29: Idk how I feel about this... It's murder we're talking abt

NialHoran54: If she had a relationship with him, murderer or not, she would've gone to the funeral. So, she def didn't know... but does it really matter? It's not like she's the murderer.

AMYJOHNSON: I feel it's wrong she didn't go to the funeral, like it's still a family member. And it was for manslaughter, so it's not like he did it on purpose. Why would she not go to pay her respects? Just seems rude to me.

---> CarlyIgaud: Maybe he was a terrible family member? I didn't go to my own dad's funeral cuz he was a dick... just cuz they're family doesn't mean you have to respect them.

--->HoracePark12: Also, "it's not like he did on purpose", he still killed someone! The family might have wanted to distance themselves from that. We don't know what happened and shouldn't be making assumptions.

I stopped reading because they just went on to argue about it and I had read enough. Why did everything have to become a sh*t show. I was awake two hours earlier than I would normally be, but I knew I couldn't go back to sleep after this. My brain would just keep running about how I wanted to respond, where I had gone wrong, and how I could fix this without negatively affecting the group. On top of just wrapping my head around this new information. So instead, I changed into my gym clothes and went down to exercise.
