"She's mad but she's magic.

There's no lie in her fire."

"So we're back to this again?" I inquired, staring up at my mates Beta with a frustrated glint in my eyes.

"His Majesty no longer trusts you to stay put, so yes, it seems we are," Jayden shrugged, crossing his arms, and leaning in his chair.

Pouting, I leaned back against the headboard, the chains moving as I shifted, "Where is he anyway?"

"Finishing up the last bit of business in a neighboring pack," Jayden replied causally.

I sighed, "Shouldn't you be with him?"

"Hm? I wonder why I'm not," he retorted, narrowing his dark brown eyes on my form before refocusing on the book he held.

"Aw, are you upset that you have to keep an eye on me instead of slaving around for your little King?" I mocked.

His brow twitched in irritation, "Are you always like this?"

"Most of the time, yes."

The beta sighed, "the Kingdom will probably destroy itself with you as Queen."

We fell silent for a few moments, my mind unsure how to respond to his comment before I perked up again, "I'm hungry," I announced, and he turned to me with an incredulous look.

"What?" I exclaimed, "I am!"

I watched as he released a sigh before getting up, and walked towards the phone.

"What do you want?" he asked, causing me to blink up at him.

"Fresh air?" I offered.

"Alexandria," he sighed, growing accustomed to my antics, "you know we can't leave."

"Please?"

"No."

"I promise I won't try anything."

"King Livius said no."

"We'll be back before he comes," I tried again, "he won't know."

"Stop trying to convince me."

"I'll vouch for you if we're caught, he'll listen to me."

"No."

"Come on, Jayden. Let me see my hometown one more time," I pleaded, and his eyes flashed with familiarity.

I had hit a spot.

He was about to say something, to put forth a proposal, but was cut off when his phone rang.

Holding it up to his ear, Jayden gave me a warning look before saying, "Hello?"

"Yes, she's right here," he continued, still eyeing me, and I huffed.

Exchanging a few more words with who I assumed to be my King, he hung up the phone, and let out a tired sigh before stepping forward and removing the chains around my wrist.

"Come on, we're leaving," he told me, gesturing towards the door.

"Where to?" I inquired, hopping up.

"We're to meet his majesty at the pack border," Jayden replied.

"And then?" I asked, cocking my head.

He blinked down at me, "And then we go home."

***********

"Great, now he's going to scold me because we're late," Beta Jayden groaned, and I laughed.
