"But this caste of demons is expelled only by means of prayer and fasting."
Matthew 17:21
In this passage, Jesus warns his disciples about a class of demons that only go out with fasting and prayer. We need to know who we are fighting against. There is a class of demons that work in people's lives. (Ephesians 6:12) And many of them only go out with fast and prayer (Matthew 17:21)
The devil's food is our sin, which is why we need to kill our flesh daily. (Galatians 6: 19-20) That is why we must fast and pray to overcome the enemy. Fasting here is not just about food. Much more goes beyond that. Fasting means to kill the meat, that is, to stop feeding it. But how do I do that? In many ways. We need to do a self-examination to find out what the Lord dislikes. Sometimes we need to fast from the internet, from people, from food, in short, from what most satisfies you.
There is a struggle of our flesh against our spirit. When we kill our flesh with fasting, our spirit is strong, then we enter with prayer to overcome the enemy. (Galatians 5:16-17)
The church needs to be ready to fight!
