Later that day Logan was at the inn getting some work done and Rory was walking around Stars hollow with Lena and Lorelai.
"Oh, I need to run in here for a second" Lorelai said as they passed Doose's market
"Ok. We'll wait out here" Rory said
Rory was standing in the town square, across the street from the market, holding Lena when Dean walked up to her
"Rory" Dean said, getting her attention
"Dean, hi"
Dean just stood there looking between Rory and Lena
"Are you ok?" Rory asked
"I love you" Dean blurted out
Rory just stood there in shock
"Rory?"
"Why would you tell me that?!"
"I don't know. I just...I felt like I should"
Rory didn't say anything
"And I'm sorry, I know this isn't a good time to tell you-"
"You're damn right, this isn't a good time to tell me that!" Rory yelled
"Rory-" Dean tried to explain himself
"The right time to tell me that would've been 8 years ago!" Rory said "it would've been when we were still together! It would've been before I got together with my husband!" Rory tried to put emphasis on the fact that she was married and clearly didn't feel the same way
"I-"
"It would have been before I got married! It's not like you didn't have a chance!"
"I know, but-"
"I'm happy Dean, ok? I love my husband. I love my daughter. I love my job. And I'm sorry but I don't love you and I definitely don't need you telling me that you've been pining for me for the last 8 years, making me feel guilty for moving on. Not to mention that if I recall correctly, you broke up with me, not the other way around!"
"I'm sorry" Dean said, quietly
"You should be!"
"Can this stay between us?"
"Seriously?!" Rory scoffed "are you actually serious?!"
"I just don't want this to cause problems between you and him"
"You did not seriously just ask me to lie to my husband"
"Look, Rory" Dean sighed "I get that you moved on, but I made a mistake. I never should have broken up with you, I know that now."
"I don't...what?"
"I wanna be with you"
Rory just looked at him like he had 3 heads
"Well?" Dean asked
Rory sighed "you see this?" She held up her left hand so Dean could see her rings "I have been wearing these for almost 4 years. This one for 5" Rory said, refering to her engagement ring "I've taken them off twice, neither time by choice, and barring another medical emergency, I don't ever plan to"
"Medical...what?! Are you ok?" Dean asked, concerned
"That's not for you to worry about!"
"Come on" Dean whined
"Rory!" Lorelai called out to Rory when she left the market
"Goodbye Dean" Rory said and walked towards her mother
