Lena walked out of the deans office in a haze, thinking about what he'd just told her. She didn't know what to do or go to tell first. She was almost at her dorm when her phone rang. She looked at the caller ID and answered
"Hey mom"
"Are you ok?" Rory asked "You sound upset"
"Not upset, just...in shock, I guess" lena said, just as she walked into her dorm room
"What happened?" Rory asked
"The Dean asked me to come in for a meeting this morning. At first I was all nervous, thinking it was a bad thing, but it wasn't. It was a good thing. A really good thing actually. But also really surprising, like I almost can't believe it. Maybe I'm dreaming"
"Lena" Rory interjected "you are very much my daughter, and I love you, but you're making me nervous"
"I'm graduating" Lena said
"Of course you're graduating"
"No, you don't get it" Lena said "I have enough credits to graduate"
"Are you trying to tell me that you're graduating this year?"
"Yeah. Well...in May actually, so technically next year, but yeah"
"Lena, that's amazing! Im so proud of you!"
"But, now I'm behind on getting everything sorted for next year"
"But you already know what you wanna do"
"But the applications opened in September, it's late already"
"Listen, you have plenty of time to send in that application. How early or late you send it in doesn't really make a difference, so as long as you send it in before the deadline, you'll be fine"
"Ok, I gotta go work on it. Bye, love you"
"Love you, too"
"Oh, and don't tell dad, I want too"
"Ok"

"What are you doing?" Oliver asked as he sat down across from Lena in the dining hall
"I have big news" Lena said
"Ok..."
"Like, huge news"
"Are you gonna tell me the news, or just how big it is?" Oliver chuckled
"I am filling out my application to Harvard law school for next year, because I'm graduating in may"
"What?!" Oliver asked in disbelief "how?"
"Between all my classes and the college courses I did in high school, I have enough credits to graduate"
"Oh, my god! That's amazing!" He stood up and hugged her

Daniel came running down the stairs, into the kitchen.
"Can I take your car to practice?" He asked
"I need mine" Rory said "take dad's"
"Thank you" Daniel said and ran out of the kitchen
"Drive carefully!" Rory called out after him
"Always!"
Rory went back to what she was doing.
Later that night, Lena walked into the house. She had come home for the weekend.
"Hi mom"
"Hey" Rory said, but noticed Lena looked upset "what's wrong?"
"I think Oliver and I are done"
"What happened?"
"I'm graduating in 6 months"
"What does that have to do with you and Oliver?"
"If things go the way I want them to I'm gonna be in Boston next year, but hell still be at Duke...in North Carolina"
"Hold on..." Rory said "did either of you actually end things?"
"No"
"Did you even talk about it?"
"Not really, but I know it's gonna happen. Long distance doesn't work"
"It worked for me and your dad"
"Really?"
"He graduated from Yale a year before I did and went to work in London...we did long distance"
"I didn't know that"
"Talk to Oliver, chances are you'll work it out"
Just then Sophie came running down the stairs, Daniel not far behind.
"What's going on?" Rory asked
"Anything that comes out of your mouth is stupid!" Daniel shouted
Sophie stopped walking, turned around to face Daniel, and crossed her arms "Daniel"
Lena busted out laughing
"Not helpful, Lena" Rory said "why are you fighting?"
"He's an ass!" Sophie said
"Language!" Rory scolded
"I didn't do anything!" Daniel said
"He's a liar!"
"Everybody stop yelling" Rory said
The room got quiet
"Daniel...what happened?"
"I didn't go in her room" Daniel said
"Excuse me?"
"You said that I'm not allowed in her room because every time I go in there we fight" Daniel said "so I didn't go in"
"He stood right outside my room and threw grapes at me while I was playing guitar" Sophie said
Rory took a deep breath "Daniel, go pick up the grapes, and then leave your sister alone"

May 2030
Rory, Logan, Daniel, and Sophie had flown down to North Carolina for Lena's graduation. They were standing outside on the campus with Lena before the ceremony.
"Are you gonna tell us your big news?" Rory asked. Lena had told them that she had news but wouldn't tell them what it was.
"Gotta wait for Oliver" Lena said
A few minutes later Oliver walked over to them "hi"
"Hi" Rory smiled "ok, now out with it"
"Are you finally gonna tell your secret?" Oliver asked
"Yup" Lena smiled
"Wait, you know?" Sophie asked
"No, she wouldn't tell me" Oliver said
"Ok, I'm telling everyone right now" Lena said "I have been accepted to Harvard law school"
"What?!" Logan said
"That's amazing!" Oliver said and went to kiss Lena but stopped himself.
Rory laughed internally at the way that even after almost 4 years, Oliver was still scared to kiss Lena in front of Rory and Logan.
"Hold on" Rory said "you told me last week that you hadn't heard yet"
"I lied" Lena admitted
"How long have you been sitting on this?" Logan asked
"Since March"
"Are you kidding me?!" Rory gasped
Lena just stood there
"Well, congratulations" Rory laughed
"Congratulations"
