Devyani's pov -

As I stood there, facepalming myself for accidentally letting my inner thoughts slip out, Dev's smirk widened. He was enjoying my embarrassment, and I could sense a mischievous glint in his eyes.

I took a deep breath, trying to compose myself. "Uh, sorry about that. I didn't mean to say those things out loud," I muttered, avoiding eye contact.

Dev smirked. "No need to apologize, Biwi. It's refreshing to know what's going on in that mind of yours." He took a step closer, his gaze never leaving mine.

I bit my lower lip nervously. "Well, it's not like I have any control over what pops into my head." He raised an eyebrow, still smirking. "True, but some of those thoughts were rather interesting." He leaned in, his lips dangerously close to my ear. "Especially the part about BDSM."

I felt my cheeks burn with embarrassment. How did he even catch on to that particular thought? Was he messing with me?

"Biwi, relax. It's not a big deal. I've heard worse. Let's just move on," he said, sipping his coffee. I nodded, still feeling uneasy.

Changing the topic, I cleared my throat. "So, um, about our conversation earlier. Can we talk about it?"

His expression turned serious, and he gestured for me to continue.

"I just wanted to express how I felt about the way you dismissed our relationship. I understand your reasons for marrying, but I believe a marriage should be built on respect and honesty. I may not have expected love right away, but mutual respect is crucial for any relationship to thrive."

He sighed, his gaze shifting to the breakfast preparations. "Biwi, I've made it clear from the beginning. This marriage is more of a family arrangement for me. Expecting emotions from me is like asking a stone to feel."

My eyes welled up with tears, but I fought them back. "I'm not asking for grand gestures or declarations of love. I'm just asking for basic respect. Is that too much to expect in a marriage?"

He remained silent for a moment, seemingly lost in his own thoughts. Finally, he looked at me with a detached expression. "I can't promise you anything, Biwi. You knew what you were getting into. Now, if you're done, I have work to attend to."

I nodded, feeling defeated. I wiped away a stray tear, determined not to let him see my vulnerability. "Fine. I'll manage. But remember, a marriage is built on more than just convenience."

As Dev left the kitchen, leaving me alone with my thoughts, I couldn't help but wonder how would I navigate this complex relationship.

At the Breakfast Table

Devendra sat at the breakfast table, sipping his coffee as if nothing had happened. Devyani joined the family, putting on a brave face despite the emotional turmoil. The elders engaged in casual conversations, seemingly oblivious to the tension lingering between the newlyweds.

As the meal progressed, Sharda praised Devyani's culinary skills, trying to lighten the atmosphere. Devendra's eyes occasionally flickered towards her, but his expressions remained inscrutable.

"Devyani, beta, the breakfast is delicious. You've certainly won everyone's hearts," Sharda Maa complimented with a warm smile. "Yes Devyani beta, the breakfast is very delicious." Her father in law said after Sharda.

"Thank you, Mummy Ji and Papa Ji," Devyani replied, forcing a smile. She couldn't shake off the lingering discomfort from the morning's confrontation. Amidst the family banter, Shalini couldn't resist adding a teasing comment, "Devendra, beta, tumhe kaisi lagi Devyani ki pehli rasoi?"

Devendra glanced at Devyani, with no expressions on his face. "It was... decent," he replied, deliberately avoiding a direct answer.

Shalini raised an eyebrow. "Just 'decent'? I thought you would appreciate your wife's efforts more generously." Devendra shrugged, maintaining his composed demeanor. "I appreciate good food. It doesn't matter who cooks it."

Devyani tried not to let his indifference affect her. She focused on her plate, determined not to show any emotional vulnerability.

After breakfast, Devendra excused himself for work, and other people also left for their work.

Sharda came towards where Devyani was sitting lost in her own thoughts. Sharda's expression shows a mix of understanding and concern for her.

"Devyani beta, I understand how are your feeling right now.  My son is complex. He has his own battles and insecurities. But I believe in time, he might open up. For now, I would only say that, patience is the key, everything will be alright soon, okay?"

Devyani nodded, absorbing her words. Patience – a virtue that she needed more than ever.

As the day unfolded, Devyani started settling into her new role as a daughter-in-law. The house was vast, filled with both tradition and modernity.

It seemed like a world of its own, and she was eager to explore every corner. She couldn't help but wonder about Devendra's mysterious persona. What lay beneath his stoic exterior? What were the secrets hidden within his soul?

The journey of unraveling Devendra Singh Rajvansh had only just begun, and she knew it wouldn't be an easy one.
