The Yun Ding Palace was quite a hike from where they had dinner, and by the time they got back, it was already past ten-thirty.

They didn't exchange a word the whole way back.

When they entered the room, Shen Jia Nian sat at the foot of the bed, playing with the tassels at the end of her scarf with chilly fingers.

Suddenly, there was a loud "bang" from the next room, as if something had been knocked to the floor. Shen Jia Nian's nerves tensed up, and she stood up from the edge of the bed.

Almost as if on autopilot, she walked to Fu Ji Chen's bedroom, her footsteps halting at the doorway.

The door was open, and there was a silver suitcase spread out on the floor. Fu Ji Chen emerged from the closet, tossing a stack of clothes into it. He was wearing just a plain black shirt, the hem of which had crept out from his pants, and he had casually rolled up the sleeves, revealing toned forearms. A delicate gold chain was wrapped around his pale wrist, a detail usually hidden within his sleeves.

But Shen Jia Nian knew he hadn't taken off that bracelet since he put it on.

As if sensing her gaze from the doorway, Fu Ji Chen straightened up and glanced over at her face with indifferent eyes.

Shen Jia Nian walked in, her steps light, and stopped beside the suitcase, looking down at the clothes inside before raising her eyes to the tall figure of the man.

He didn't say anything and turned to the closet, grabbing two ties.

Shen Jia Nian didn't know how to start the conversation, and he didn't seem inclined to explain his whereabouts. Silence stretched in the spacious room.

Finally, Shen Jia Nian couldn't help but speak first. As he turned around again, she reached out and grabbed the hem of his shirt, her voice as light as a swallow skimming over snow, leaving no trace. "Where are you going?"

She might not have noticed it herself, but in that simple sentence, there was a hint of dependence.

This house was completely unfamiliar to her, and he was the only person she knew.

Fu Ji Chen turned around, his gaze dropping to her small hand clutching his shirt hem, the snow-white fingertips against the black shirt, the stark contrast stimulating to the eyes.

She held on tightly, wrinkling the fabric as if afraid he might leave.

Fu Ji Chen couldn't help but chuckle lightly, with a hint of mocking. Since seeing that person from the Pei family tonight, she seemed to have lost her senses, all her attention focused on him, as if there were no one else in her eyes.

She probably wished she could fly to that person's side and relieve his lovesickness.

Two people in love and righteous, forced apart by uncontrollable circumstances, Fu Ji Chen didn't know if in such a situation, feelings would deepen or fade over time.

"Shen Jia Nian, what are you trying to do with this attitude?" Fu Ji Chen pulled her hand away, but didn't immediately let go. His fingers, distinct and strong, exerted a hidden force, veins bulging on the back of his hand as he spoke slowly, each word emphasized, "Don't tell me you're reluctant to let me go."

Shen Jia Nian raised her eyes, staring at his sharply defined face, long eyebrows and deep eyes, seemingly shrouded in an unbreakable mist, forgetting what she wanted to say in an instant.

"Speak up." Fu Ji Chen's mood was very bad, barely concealed.

Shen Jia Nian pursed her lips. She had just come over to check on the noise she heard, saw the suitcase on the ground, and felt a hint of panic, wanting to know where he was going late at night.
