"Hmm?" Fu Jichen lowered his head, staring into her eyes, and asked based on his own speculation, "Did she embarrass you?"

Shen Jiani shook her head. "No."

Since she chose to conceal it in front of Wei Ronghua, she certainly wouldn't stoop to reporting behind her back.

Fu Jichen wasn't unwilling to believe her words; he simply didn't trust Wei Ronghua. With her strong personality, she couldn't possibly have no reaction to Shen Jiani appearing in his office.

He persisted, "She didn't bully you either?"

Shen Jiani knew he couldn't be easily fooled. Holding onto him with both hands around his neck, she squeezed out a smile, "At most, she expressed that my presence here might affect your work, nothing else."

"Don't listen to her." Fu Jichen didn't want to mention Wei Ronghua again. He picked up the takeout on the table and handed it to her. "It's still warm."

"What did you buy?"

Shen Jiani opened the paper bag. Inside was a cup of milk tea, and additional toppings were packed in plastic containers. Perhaps unsure of her preferences, he ordered a variety, totaling over ten containers.

If all the toppings were added, it wouldn't be milk tea anymore, but porridge.

"I already had sweet soup on my way here. Taking in so much sugar isn't good for you," Shen Jiani expressed, not having any body image anxieties, but rather concerned for her health.

With pending work to attend to, Fu Jichen didn't have time to chat with her. Sitting in the big chair behind the desk, he stared at the computer screen, moving the mouse to respond to her, "If you don't want to drink, it's fine. No need to force yourself."

Shen Jiani opened the cup, added some toppings, closed the lid, tore open the packaging of the straw, and inserted it into the opening on the lid before handing it to Fu Jichen. "You drink half first, and I'll have the rest."

Fu Jichen's gaze shifted from the computer screen to her face. With slightly raised eyebrows, it seemed he was asking, "Are you serious?"

"There's tea in the milk tea, which helps refresh the mind," Shen Jiani said earnestly.

Fu Jichen smiled knowingly, seeing Shen Jiani slightly embarrassed by his expression. "If you don't want to, then forget it."

She was about to retract her hand when Fu Jichen grabbed her wrist. Lowering his head, he took a sip from her hand, and a soft, chewy, and sweet pearl entered his mouth.

His brows immediately furrowed, releasing her hand. He grabbed a tissue from the box on the table, wrapping up what he spat out, and asked, "What's this?"

"It's black sugar pearls," Shen Jiani answered, seeing his slightly disgusted expression and smiling with her eyes narrowed. "Have you never had milk tea? You don't even know what pearls are."

Of course, Fu Jichen knew there were pearls in milk tea, as she said. He had never tasted it, nor did he have any desire to try. If she hadn't handed it to him today, he probably wouldn't have tried it in his lifetime.

Shen Jiani teased, "Is it delicious?"

With his mouth full of sweetness, Fu Jichen said, "If it's good, you can have more."

Seeing that he still had work to do, Shen Jiani didn't pull him into idle chatter, lest she become the fox spirit that Wei Ronghua mentioned, affecting his work.

Holding the milk tea, she sat on the sofa in the reception area, flipping through the foreign book she picked from the shelf. Although the translation was clear and concise, she couldn't focus. Wei Ronghua's words echoed in her mind like a haunting melody.
