ALISHA

This was exactly the fourth time I was grounded in my thirteen years of life. Ever. Yeah, that less. And every time I was, I realized and regretted my mistakes soon. So the rest of the time was usually cut off, or I just spent it with peace in the library or with my dear music. With nowhere to go, nothing to do, I was in the library reading an analysis done by the Being Human team about the education in India. Basically, we were slowly and steadily improving but a lot of work was still needed.

“Hey, it’s late at night. You should sleep.” Sohail came in with his laptop, most probably to work as well.

“Yeah, I was about to. And Sohail, sorry about that behavior.” I bit my lip and got all the papers into the folder- safe and secure.

“I know you are. But it doesn’t spare you the infamous lecture.” He smirked and I frowned and the same instant. I knew that, though I was wishing he’d let it go for once. But then, let’s give him a chance to feel like a guardian for once now, shall we?

“You know, you are right about one thing. It’s not always about your disease, and there is just so much more to you than that. And we seem to overlook it, but can we help it? I mean, we have to make sure you are alright, that’s it. Trust me, if we could take this thing away from you and into us, we would have done that long ago. And we hate the fact that some things aren’t in our hands. So all we can do is try and be with you, everytime you need anyone of your three brothers.”

There was a long pause after his explanation and I played with my fingers. He stood by the side of the book shelf and let me take my time to react. Stepping into their shoes, it felt right- I’d do anything to make sure nothing happened to my brothers too, and that was what they were trying to do.

“I’m sorry, and I love you.” I spread out my arms for him and he picked me up, swinging me in the air.

“Love you too baby girl.” Kissing my forehead, he gave me a light push towards the door. Getting out of the club, I went to the main house and into my room.

“Alright, wake up now.” Someone shook me awake, since I didn’t have my phone to set an alarm on. Boy, did I miss that stupid Paris Hilton screeching into my ears. Yes, Paris Hilton songs were usually my alarms. I hated the songs that caused me to get up, so why use my favorite songs? Instead, I used Paris Hilton. She wasn’t all that useless after all.

“I just slept, go away.” I groaned, digging deeper into the covers.

“Gosh, just wake up now. I’m getting late and the entire office will kill me if I don’t get there on time. So yeah, please.” He shook me again, this time after opening the curtains and flipping on all the lights in the room.

“You’re going to the office at 6 in the morning?” I opened one eye, looking at Sohail half ready. By half ready I meant he had his shirt, tie and jacket on, hair styled and stuff. But he was still wearing his boxers.

“Umm, yeah?” he scratched his head and I chuckled. Poor him.

“Ok, up now.” He gave me his hand and I took it.

“Sohail…since I don’t have my phone…how do I control my pod?” I asked and he shrugged.

“The remote it had.”

“And that is lying where?” I raised my brows at him while rubbing my eyes and wishing I could sleep for just five more minutes. It was all I ever asked for on Christmas and my birthday every year.

“You don’t know where the remote is?!” he exclaimed, and I shook my head once. Since I used my phone as the remote itself, I had completely forgotten about its existence. Sohail rummaged through my drawers to find the remote, as I lazily got up and brushed my teeth.
