"Yea. I'm ready to go home now."

I knew it.

Continued...

I just knew she would want to leave before anything. That lets me know that she isn't on any type of respectful level with them. If she was, she would've thugged it out and ignored them, but her first move was to leave. Her growth is amazing. Old Onika would've wanted to pounce on them.

We went upstairs still, laying the kids down since they were tired. She stood there staring at me for a few and I did the same. She's really upset but trying to frame it. I see it in her eyes.

"You knew they were coming...That's why you said I would flip my shit?"

"Yea...Mama said she wants them here to help her celebrate her birthday because they're her best friends. I told her you wouldn't want to stay for this, but she insisted you do."

"I don't wanna do this." She inhaled sharply making my face soften. Now she's about to cry, I don't think I can take this. We're about to go. "I d-don't wanna face them. Do I have to? I don't want to."

"Don't panic Onika." I pulled her into me and she wrapped her arms around my waist. She's really thinking too deep about it and about to send herself into a panic attack. Her nerves are already bad, always biting her nails. Maybe that's where Gisé gets her hair twirling from.....That makes sense now. "Inhale and let it go slow. Stop getting so worked up over stuff." I rubbed her back feeling a tear go down my arm. She's gotten so soft.

"I don't wanna leave if Mama wants us to stay but I don't wanna talk to them either."

"Then you don't have to. Act like they aren't there."

She sniffled and nodded before pulling away, her face all red and shiny. I still haven't figured out why she was so hot and red downstairs. It just happened out of nowhere. Like she could feel that something was about to happen before it even happened.

"We can leave Onika. Mama will understand if you're still not comfortable."

"No. It's cool. Can't keep running from problems, i'm too old for that....I wanna get the boys and see if they're tired or anything." She wiped her face. We made sure the girls were good and asleep before walking out. Her face didn't even look like she'd just cried like that. Snap back game strong as hell.

It was so loud downstairs, everyone's voices carried. We went straight to the backyard seeing the boys playing football. Caiah was playing with them, letting them tackle him. Omari doesn't know Caiah, but i'm sure Vontaé remembers him a little bit.
