The golden chandeliers hanging from the ceiling were lit with candles, casting a flickering light on the people below. The thick, black curtains had been drawn to shut out any light coming in from the outside, leaving the corners of the room in a gloomy darkness. Long tables standing on the sides of the room were covered with beautiful black tablecloths, and crystal wine glasses stood on top of the table cloths. Next to them were decanters filled with a ruby-red wine.

Draco's eyes swept through the room as he took in the scene.

There were different kinds of people.
Witches and wizards, dressed in black, were standing around in groups, talking and laughing as they drunk the wine from the glasses.
There were a few vampires too, pale and beautiful as they glided among the crowd. Although different in appearance, all of them had hungry, black eyes and two elongated teeth that ended in sharp tips.
And lastly, standing out with his tall and bulky figure, there was one werewolf.
Fenrir Greyback.
A hundred werewolves were under his command, yet only he was allowed to attend this meeting. Whereas they had proven useful, werewolves were wild, unbridled and untamed. The only reason Greyback had made it into the Inner Circle of the Death Eaters was because of his ruthlessness and his passion for slaughtering.
The Dark Lord forbade the other, lower-ranked werewolves to attend a party where civilized behavior was a requirement.

Draco's lips curled.
As if the Dark Lord knew what the word 'civilized' even meant.

Draco and his mother were soon joined by Severus Snape, who was dressed in black robes that, in combination with his pale face, only enhanced the effect of him appearing like a vampire.
He nodded curtly at Draco.

"Beautiful as always, Narcissa", he said silkily.

"Thank you, Severus", Narcissa Malfoy replied, her eyes scanning the room for her husband.
"If you'll excuse me."

And off she had gone, disappearing into the crowd, blending in with the others.

Draco looked at his godfather.
He himself had grown so much, he did not even need to look up anymore. They were both on the same height.

Professor Snape shot him a look out of his inky eyes, which, if Draco read them correctly, held a warning for him.
One slip, and he would be dead.

"I know", he said quietly, noting satisfied that his voice did not quiver.

"The Dark Lord will arrive in any minute", said Professor Snape blandly. "I suggest you get ready."

Draco nodded and followed his godfather through the crowd toward the other side of the room, where he knew he had to take his position.

"Ah, young Draco Malfoy", said a slimy voice. A wizard came in Draco's focus, a handsome man with short, black hair. His eyes sparkled intelligently as he raised his glass in a form of toast.
"Finally joining us, I see."
