AALIYAH

flashback*

"what are you gonna do?"
miles asked sipping from his milkshake.

i shook my head,i had no idea.
my mind was clouded with thoughts i never thought would even be a possibility.

never in my life did i think i would end up in a situation like this one.
one i could barely get out of.

"i don't know."
i bit my fry, trying to make myself eat.
"he's been watching me like there's no tomorrow."

"how did you get out today?"
i shrugged my shoulders.
"i told him i had another job interview."

i leaned back in my seat sighing, holding in my emotions.
i can't keep living like this.

i cant.

"maybe that's it"
i looked up at miles who was staring straight at me.
"get a job"

i shrugged.
"what good is that gonna do?"
he shook his head.

"i don't know exactly but it could buy you some time, you could stay away from him more and make money while doing it."

i nodded accepting his idea, but also having doubts.
"it's better than you being home all the time and him finding you"

"where would i even get a job at? he can't know where i work"
he gestured to the diner around us.

it was called ' teresa's diner' and we had been coming here since we were kids.

it was one of the many places travis didn't know about that i spent my time in.

"he'd never know, you'd be safe, you know teresa got you."
i put my head on the table feeling my eyes get cloudy.

"liyah you gotta do this for you."
he looked my way.
"for us."

i let the tears fall down my face as i wiped one away, wincing as i swiped too hard over the new bruise under my eye.

curtesy of travis.

"you just gotta stick it out for a little longer and act like nothing is wrong"
he tried to encourage me.

i shook my head letting it fall as more tears came.
"i don't know if i can."

he grabbed my hand on the table holding it in his.
"you got this liyah.i love you"

"you can't let him keep treating you like this."

-
"liyah?"

i put my attention on the tall curly headed girl next to me.
"you good?"

i nodded, letting my feet catch up with hers as we continued on to the cafeteria.
