Ashton

When the pizza arrived, Viola and I took ours to the bedroom. We sat on the bed, my arm round her as we ate and watched a film.

She looked really beautiful lately. Summer made her skin and smile glow, and I could tell she had more energy. Her relationship with Ava and my family had grow stronger, and she was more open with me.

Most her worries that came with the last relationship she had were gone, and it was amazing to see her become herself again. Gradual, but incredible.

It still shocked me to feel such admiration towards someone after feeling so hopeless and alone, but she had changed me in a good way- I believed. I felt happier.

"This is calmer than last night," I said smugly, feeling her elbow in my side.

"There are children next door,"

"They go to a high school, Viola. Besides, they'll he talking about a tv show or something,"

"Still,"

"On holiday, in one of the places, we have a separate place for the night. I think that would be special,"

"Stop planning these types of things," she groaned, humour in her voice, "let it happen,"

"This pizza is really good,"

"I can't believe you sometimes,"

Wanting to let them be, we carried on the film for a while. We rarely got such a peaceful night, because Ava usually came through and wedged herself between us.

It was nice to hold her hand and trace patterns on her arm, because when she wanted to sleep, she liked her space.

Both the kids went into the bathroom, and I heard them brushing their teeth and washing their face, so I called Ava in after.

"Are you heading to sleep now?"

"Yeah, we are tired,"

"You brushed your teeth properly?"

"Yes,"

"Let me look then,"

She opened her mouth and I hummed, raising my eyebrows.

"Go and do it properly now please. I won't have sympathy next time if it's just because you can't be bothered,"

She blushed and turned round, going back to the bathroom.

"Ash, she's got a friend over, she just wants to be with him,"

"And she still needs to look after herself,"

"It's quite late," she yawned, "they need their beds sorted,"

"I'll sort her bed out,"

I grabbed her cover and pillows, setting them on the sofa, while Owen's air bed filled up. I grabbed him a blanket and one of Ava's pillows, then turned the air con on.

"All okay?"

"Yes thankyou,"

"Sorry if I come off a bit snappy,"

"I get it, sometimes she dazes off,"

I chuckled and nodded, heading into the bathroom, Ava looking miserable.

"I didn't mean to embarrass you," I hushed, "I'm sorry,"

"I try,"

"I know, I think you were just in a hurry. I only want to make sure you're happy,"
