Ava

The next day, we went on a walk through the woods. I didn't like it, but I could tell dad did and that meant a lot. He appreciated things I did, so it was only fair I did the same.

It was pretty, I supposed, and hearing the birds sing was nice, but I was just tired.

I was happy to get back home and lay in my own bed, while Marcus spun around on my desk chair. He was trying to make me laugh.

It wasn't working.

"Ha. Ha. Ha,"

"Cheer up,"

"Don't tell someone who needs cheering up to cheer up. Perhaps I like being sad,"

He raised his eyebrows and smirked, then looked down to his hands.

"Ava, can I ask you something?"

"Yeah,"

"What do you do in therapy?"

"Talk, about whatever you want, and they help if you're battling something. I like it,"

"I might... see if it would help me. I don't know, I guess I've not had,"- "don't,"

"I think you should,"

"Tea is ready!" Dad called, the smell of fajitas hitting my nose. Marcus helped me up and we went through, seeing the table set.

"I hope these are okay,"

"Never had them," he laughed lightly, "they smell great,"

"In our new house, the food won't take half as long because there's a new cooker,"

"Do we have a room each?" he asked curiously.

"We do, and a guest room. There's a conservatory too, we were thinking you'd like a desk each for your school work?"

"With my own desk chair?" I asked.

"With your own desk chair," he chuckled, waiting as I made my fajita. I tucked in while they made theirs, Marcus adding sour cream which I didn't like.

"Dad," Marcus said, "Ashton,"

"You don't have to call me dad, you can wait until you're fostered if that helps,"

"Yeah, okay. Ashton, I've been thinking, and I think I might want to see someone,"

"We can sort that out. It's a really brave things to say,"

"You're going to be even more happy," I smiled, " I love you,"

Perhaps Marcus wouldnt understand how big that was for me, but the smile dad gave me made me know I was doing it right.

"These are really nice,"

"Thankyou, Ava,"

"We can have them when Marcus comes back,"

"We might," dad said, "good idea,"

We helped tidy after tea so that we could watch one more film- Marcus was leaving in the morning.

I sat between the two, my feet on dads lap as he rubbed them. They were really sore, and I was glad Marcus didn't mind as I rested on his side. We watched another Christmas film, one called "Elf", and it upset me how the dad was so mean to start with. If my dad was like that, I wouldn't be very happy.

Though, as all the films we had watched, it ended happy.

"I think it's time you get ready for bed,"
