Ava

"Sorry, your dad started talking," I said hesitantly, putting my bag down on Julie's floor. Her room was quite big, and really pretty.

Everything was neat, and had its own place; it was the opposite of mine.

"He does that a lot," she snorted, "he's making us soup for lunch,"

"But we aren't sick,"

"It's not just a sick food,"

"Oh,"

"That so cute," she cooed, kissing my cheek as she stood to turn the tv on. I sat on her double bed, laying on the soft, pale pink pillows.

"Julie, are you in any of my classes next year?"

"I might be, what are you doing?"

Unlike me, Julie was really smart. A lot of her life revolved around school and study, and doing her best. She achieved it as well.

"History, re and art,"

"I might be with you in history- it's my favourite class,"

"I really wish I could enjoy school like you, but it's hard because I struggle to understand,"

"We all struggle sometimes, remember you're not the only one ,"

I nodded and gladly rested on her shoulder as she sat down. I let myself be close to her, and I was happy to be close to her- it didn't feel wrong.

All those months ago I was panicking, and so scared to tell dad, but now I was sleeping over at my girlfriends house as well as still having dad. I loved him so much.

"I drove past you the other day and you were going to look round a house- are you moving?"

"Yeah, not right away, but we might have to,"

"Why?"

"Only Sam knows, so you can't tell anyone else, and I wasn't supposed to tell him anyway,"

"I won't,"

"It turns out I have an older brother, and he's coming to visit over Christmas, then dad might adopt him,"

"Wow... wow. That's a lot to take in... wow,"

I giggled slightly, then nodded and sighed.

"He's amazing. We call all the time,"

"I'm really happy. You'll have to send me a photo,"

"He looks just like me, and he's in Harry's year so they can be friends. It's so weird,"

"That's really great," she smiled, tilting my chin so she could kiss me. I noticed that she could sometimes be a lot more forward, but today I didn't mind.

"And I want to call Viola my mum, but it's easy to forget sometimes,"

"Well you're doing your best and that's what counts. My mum said we can go bowling later,"

"I have no money,"

"I know, but you're the guest,"

"I can't. I'm not allowed to do things without dad paying,"

"He can't get mad at you,"

Carl called us down to lunch so we went down, a bowl of soup and some bread for us both. They took theirs to the living room while Julie and I stayed at the table, talking a little more.

She so effortlessly talked about her passions, and did it so confidently.

"Ava, you got soup all over your face,"
