Ava

"He's really nice," I said to dad, running through to their room and jumping onto their bed. Viola laughed, helping me sit back up.

"You two sounded like you got in really well,"

"We did, I wish I could see him,"

"We are figuring something out. I promise we can,"

"This summer?"

"Possibly. There's a lot to think about,"

"Thankyou for helping,"

He hugged me, kissing my head. He smelt of dad, not work, which made the hug even better.

"I love you so much,"

"I love you too," he said, "you gonna give Viola a hug too?"

"In a minute. I miss you,"

He shushed me, scratching my back before letting go. I hugged Viola too, settling between the two of them.

"I cut my cheek on my braces while we hugged," I mumbled, resting on dad's chest.

"Sorry,"

"Can I stay or do you want time alone?"

"You can stay, but it's almost bed time,"

"I'm in Michael's and Luke's office tomorrow, and grandma's on Thursday?"

"Yeah, you can finish your secret thing,"

I was making Christmas cards for all the families, so the one for Karen and Daryl needed to be done by Saturday.

Though I couldn't get them gifts, I could make and draw a card, so in my head it was a bigger gesture. To everyone else, it probably wasn't , because I wasn't that smart.

"I think I might go to sleep,"

"Alright, I'll come through in ten minutes,"

My hair was still wet so I plaited it, then went to the bathroom to brush my teeth. I flossed then washed my face, climbing into bed as dad entered.

"If you want, I can try not to wake you up tomorrow so you get a lie in. I'll pack you some cereal, and if you go to the staffroom there is milk you can use,"

"Yes please,"

"Good. You still look tired,"

I shrugged, letting him take my phone before saying goodnight.

I must've been exhausted, because I next woke up in Luke's office, under a thin blanket with a cushion under me. My body ached, and I yawned, slowly sitting up.

A fan was on in the corner, and I was now in shorts, which made me a little uncomfortable. However, I'd met or seen a lot of the staff here, and they were all nice. Viola would've changed my fluffy pyjamas anyway.

As dad promised, he'd left some things including some cereal, a bowl and spoon. It was the beginnings of their work day, so I assumed no one would be in the staff room, but I seemed to walk in on a casual meeting. I'm sure seeing a teenage girl barge in with a bag of cereal wasn't exactly what they expected.

I felt my cheeks burning, and went to leave, but someone called my name. I turned back round and saw Dan and Jenni, quickly walking over.

"What's brought you here then?"

"I need milk,"

"Your dad just left you some cereal in a bag?" Jenni laughed, taking it from me, "he does make me laugh sometimes,"
