"Not for me. They were going to kill her, unless I spied on you and did what she asked me to do. She wanted you to herself. She wanted Chloe dead. Instead, I took her memories. I left you a chance, even just a small one, of getting her back. I couldn't let her kill Jade. I love her."

I pursed my lips, and looked at Sam, who raised his eyebrows at me. "Did you know that she was your One when you took Chloe's memories?" I asked.

I could tell that he didn't, but a lot of vamps don't know about the legend or only hear it as a fairy tale.

"Wh-what?" He stuttered out.

I nodded at him, and shrugged.

"Yep, she's your One. I know that look by now. But I have a question for you. Why didn't you tell us? Why didn't you ask us for help? You know that we would've done everything that we could to help you save her. So why? Why betray us?"

I already knew the answer but I had to hear it.

"I didn't have a choice Colby." He replied, shaking his head. "She was torturing her every day, then healing her, to start it all over again. I couldn't take it. I tried to tell you once, but that's when I found out that she had someone tailing me. Every time they thought that I was about to tell you, they would send word and have her hurt more. I didn't know what else to do. I didn't want to kill Chloe. I knew that would destroy you. I know that I chose my own happiness over yours and I'm sorry..." He glanced back up and met my gaze, his eyes full of pain. "But I can't live without her. I can't bear to have her in pain. I didn't care if they killed me, but they said they would torture her, and feed off of her even after I was dead. I just couldn't chance it. I'm so sorry brother. I don't blame you for hating me, or killing me. Do what you have to do. Just make sure she is safe."

Damn it. I sighed heavily.

"Let him down." I replied, motioning to Elton to release him from his chains.

"Wha-" Elias said, surprise in his voice.

"I'm not gonna kill you because I understand. I get why you did it. I would have done the same thing."

I was still feeling hate towards him, and I was extremely pissed off...but I got it. Elton released him, unlocking the chains that he couldn't break. A gift from the Council for unruly vampires.

"So what does this mean then?" Elias asked hesitantly.

"It means you can live...for now. Get your girl, and go. Don't come back to the house. I still want to kill you, even though I know why you did it. Doesn't change the fact that Chloe is lying in my bed, unconscious and won't wake up."

His eyebrows raised straight up into his hairline. "What? Why is she unconscious? I only took her memories of you and vampires. I didn't hurt her."

I clenched my fists tightly to keep from hitting him. "You did hurt her though. Her brain is revolting in on itself, because the memories are trying to come back for some reason. I think that compulsion doesn't last on her. Only you took so much, it's harming her instead of just coming back. So now, she won't wake up and I don't know how to fix it."

"Colby, oh my God, Brother, I'm so sorry, I-"

I held my hand up again to stop him, and took a step away.

I knew that I was about to start wailing on him, if I didn't put some space in between us.

"I need you to go. NOW. Because I'm about to kick your ass into a bloody pulp. Leave. Don't come back to the house. Ever. Unless I send word."

His eyes were still full of pain, and I could tell that he felt bad but I didn't care.

I looked away.

"Am I still in the clan or am I banished?"

I jerked my head around, meeting his gaze again and took a step back towards him. "Did I say you were banished? Leave Elias. While you still can."

He nodded, and then he was gone.

Corey came back downstairs a second later.

"So I missed out on the fun part and now I gotta help clean up. That's fucked up bro."

I rolled my eyes. "Shut up." I groaned.

"I would think you would be happier Brother. Millie's dead. You did what you wanted to do." He replied.

I just looked at him for a moment, then turned my head and started cleaning up the mess. Everyone was quiet while they started helping me out. We worked at a normal human pace, not rushing it.

Not sure why, just seemed like the right thing to do.

"What time are we supposed to meet Melanie?" I asked Sam, who was rolling up the tarp that was on the floor.

We were going to have to take that out back and hose it down.

"Around 3 a.m. You know, the witches hour." He cracked a grin at me, and I couldn't help but to smile back.

Sam was always into stuff like that. I remembered when we used to hang out all of the time when we were human, exploring abandoned places back in Kansas. Challenging each other to stay in what we thought were the scariest places as late as we could.

Little did we know, we were going to turn into the scary monsters.

"It's almost time then. Can you guys finish up here so Sam and I can go meet this witch?"

"Yeah Brother, we got you." Jake said.

He had been unusually quiet on this trip. I would have to ask him about that later.

"Thanks." I said, and clapped him on the shoulder, before Sam and I sped out of the house.

The witch wanted to meet at a cabin in the woods. A fucking cabin in the middle of the woods. The forest was also called Witches Forest, so that was always a good sign.

Fucking hell, why did we always get pulled into this crazy shit? Regular Wicca's, I was fine with. Pull your power from nature all you want, but when they started messing with that demonic shit, I didn't wanna be involved.

Now, I had no choice. I guess Elias was right. Sometimes there was no choice.
