"Thought that you just had a preference for them. Now I see that I was wrong. My apologies." He backed away, holding his hands in front of him in defense while Sam and I stared him down.

When he finally turned around, he kept glancing back at us a couple of times. As soon as he sat back down, the hushed whispers started.

Did they just forget that we were all vampires that could hear everything that they said?

"They aren't feeders. I think they're WITH them. How weird is that? And High Council Victoria chose them to be part of our Council."

"They can't have good judgement if they chose to be with humans. It isn't right. The humans shouldn't even know our business."

"Maybe they plan on turning them." The whispers continued as we all sat back down, but we tried our best to ignore them.

It didn't matter. We were the ones on the Council, not them.

"SILENCE!" Victoria's voice rang out among the crown, bouncing off of the cement walls. "It seems we have some complaints within the group. Would you like to share? Being vampires, we've already heard them, but I'd like for you to speak up officially please." It sounded like she was asking politely, but I could see by the glint in her eyes that she had taken offense to what the vamps were saying.

The vamp that had approached me, glanced my way, before he stood.

"Yes, of course Madam High Council. I was only stating that I didn't understand why these two were on the Council. They've blatantly brought humans within our most respected walls. The humans are not to know our business. Even if they are meant to be turned, they aren't allowed until they are. I was just curious. I'm sorry to offend Madam."

Did he just give her a little bow?! Oh, if anyone ever did that to me, I don't know if I would be able to keep myself from laughing in their faces! As it were, I couldn't stop the smirk that crossed my lips.

Victoria gained another notch of respect from me when she openly rolled her eyes at him.

"First, you knew that you would be heard so you wanted this issue to be addressed. Second, you are a weak, spineless maggot, unworthy of calling yourself part of a vampire clan. Third, do you think that I don't know the rules and regulations of the Council? I have been on this Council for 350 years and you question me? That is insubordination, and grounds to have you banished."

The vamp's eyes widened in shock, but he didn't speak.

Victoria tapped her fingers on her table, staring at him for a moment before speaking again.

"Now, since you think that you know the rules so well, tell me something. Tell me what actions are taken when a vampire finds their One. Their soulmate."

The vamps eyes flicked to me again, then to Victoria, panic filling them. "Um Maam? The One? That is only a myth. It doesn't exist." He stuttered out.

She smirked at him.

"But it does. You see, it isn't a myth, it is only very rare. Or so we thought. Seems like quite a few are finding their One's lately. I myself found mine years ago. Isn't that right Edmond?" She placed her hand on top of his.

I didn't see that coming. Victoria and Edmond. Huh.

"So, in aspect to these vampires, these Council Members, finding their Ones, we are indeed within the rights of the laws of the Council. The One is allowed inside all aspects of the vampires life, even without turning because there is no way that the One will ever betray their Love. The bond is too strong. These humans have every right to be here, more right than you, I think. You will show respect to your Council members, regardless if you agree with their choices or not."

He closed his eyes. It looked like he was realizing that he fucked up. Just made my smirk grow larger.

He opened them again, meeting her gaze.

"My apologies Madam. I didn't intentionally mean to question you or your decisions for the Council. I was simply curious. I understand that I have no right to an explanation, but I do appreciate it all the same. It won't happen again." He would be begging at her feet right now, if he could.

"It had better not." She replied sternly. "Now sit down and try not to ruin the night for the rest of us."

He nodded, and sat down quickly, almost knocking the chair over in his haste. Everyone started talking again, while some music started playing. Sam and I looked at each other and laughed.

"Guess she told him." Sam said, a big smile on his face.

I knew that mine matched his.

"Yeah, I guess she did."

I looked back over to his table, finding him looking our way. I lifted my hand and waved my fingers at him, with a smug smile on my face. He turned away quickly.

"Let's have some fun." I said, standing and holding my hand out to Chloe.

"Huh?" She asked in surprise.

She took my hand and I pulled her up next to me.

"Let's dance." I replied, pulling her with me to the empty area that was cleared specifically for that reason.

She pulled back, but I wouldn't release her hand.

"No, Colby, no! There's no one even out here. Are we even supposed to do this?"

I laughed again, and pulled her quickly to me, dipping her. She gasped as I lay her back.

"Well okay then. Guess we're doing this." She replied wryly.

I pulled her back up, and rested my hands on her hips, as her arms came around my neck. The others from our group soon followed. Sam and Kat, Jake and Tara, and Corey and Devyn all hit the dance floor with us.

Mike, Kevin, and Aryia soon followed with some random girls that they had asked. Sam Smith's Dancing With A Stranger was playing. Others soon joined us, filling up the dance floor.
