"That should have been reported." He glared at me, and I just nodded.

I know that, you son of a bitch.

"So you're requesting that we let this human girl, this Jade, and your friend here," He looked down at the tablet in front of him. "Elias, is it?"

Elias nodded his head, a short jerky movement and didn't say anything.

Hillmond's eyes met mine again.

"You want us to let them go. With no repercussions for what  they've done."

I tilted my own head, staring at him. "What exactly have they done?" I asked.

A glint formed in HIllmond's eyes that I didn't like at all.

He wasn't going to make this easy but I guess I really didn't expect him to.

"He didn't report that he found his One, so he let a human in on the secrets without authorization. He stole a human's memories without authorization."

"He was coerced to do that!" I exclaimed, raising my hand towards Elias. "Millie threatened to kill J-"

"DO NOT INTERRUPT ME AGAIN MR. BROCK." His voice cut me off, booming around the concrete room.

I narrowed my eyes at him, drawing my lips into my mouth.

"IF he had reported what he knew, then we would have protected him and taken care of the problem. IF he had told us of the illegal vampire to begin with, none of this would have happened. Instead of being loyal to the Council, he chose to be loyal to his clan." The word clan was said like it tasted disgusting in his mouth.

He deemed himself above needing a clan. A family. Found it degrading.

I shook my head.

"That's on me. The clans are taught to obey their leaders. I told him to keep his mouth shut when he found out, that I was dealing with it. I had every intention on reporting the problem. Things just got out of hand and it wasn't top on the list. I wasn't trying to hide it." I replied, holding eye contact with him.

I was lying through my teeth but he didn't need to know that.

He cocked his eyebrow at me again, making me grit my teeth.

"So...if we decide to delve into your mind Mr. Brock, we will find the information that you've given us to be true."

I stared at him for just a moment. If I continued to lie, maybe he would believe me and not go inside my head. If I continued to lie, and they did decide to, then I was fucked.

What do I do? I nodded.

"Every word." I replied, my voice steady as I held his gaze.

I had already come this far. I wasn't backing down now. He held my gaze, waiting for me to falter.

Sorry to disappoint.

"Fine." He replied sternly after a moment.

My mouth fell open in shock.

"What?" I asked. "We can go?"

He shook his head with an evil grin. "No. They can go." He nodded towards some vamps guarding the door behind him and to the left. "Release the girl and bring her here." He looked back towards Elias. "When she is returned to you, leave. We have her recorded as your One. She is allowed to hold our secrets but she must do so without hesitation. There must be no more mistakes. Understood?"

Elias nodded, his eyes wide, flicking between Hillmond and me. The other vamps sitting around Hillmond started murmuring too quickly for even my ears to understand.

"Silence!" Hillmond replied, holding his hands up. "Colby has decided to take responsibility for the mishaps of the members of his clan. The punishment will be his. Isn't that right Mr. Brock?"

I glared at him, wanting to jump up and across that table to see if I could take him down. Instead, I bit my tongue to keep my words inside my mouth, and nodded. If that's what I had to do.

He just wanted revenge. Whatever. I could take whatever he threw at me.

A big, Jason Momoa looking vamp busted through the doors pulling a shrieking Jade by the chains still bound on her wrists.

"JADE!" Elias yelled, starting towards her.

I grabbed him, holding him back.

"Wait." I said quietly.

They were releasing her. They weren't hurting her, just being a little more rough than necessary.

Probably trying to get a rise out of us.

"Control yourself."

He glared at me, then looked back to Jade, but stayed still. I could see his jaw clenching with the effort it was taking him to stand still and not rush towards her. An image of Chloe flashed in my mind, and I inhaled sharply.

I honestly admired his strength. I couldn't have done it. The vamp yanked her forwards, and I noticed the tears streaming down her face, so I tightened my grip on Elias.

When they came around the Council's table, she finally noticed Elias standing there.

"Eli!" She sobbed out.

The vamp turned her around sharply, and undid the chains holding her. Then he shoved her towards Elias. I let him go and she half ran, half fell into his open arms, crying.

He clung to her, whispering sweet things in her ear, while he stroked her hair, comforting her. She didn't look hurt, only ragged, besides the red marks on her arms. They probably just tortured her mind.

I couldn't help but think of Chloe as I watched them.

When would I see her again? I know what I had promised her and Sam, and I was going to do everything in my power to make sure that I kept that promise...but I wasn't sure that I was going to be able to. The pains in my chest were so intense, I briefly considered turning the emotions back off.

I couldn't do that though. Not yet at least. Not when I still had a chance of going back to her, to my family.

I didn't want to be that person again.

"Go now, before we change our minds." One of the female vamps said, motioning towards them with a shooing gesture.

Elias looked at me, gratefulness in his eyes, begging at the same time. He didn't know what to do.
