Working in retail was meant to just hold you over as you searched for your dream job. As fate would have it you ended up staying longer than anticipated, your work family embracing your shy but kind nature. When you met Mason during a surprise birthday outing with friends you knew that he would be someone important in your life, his high energy and bright smile putting you at ease in a way no one else can. That's why giving the Chelsea star your number at the end of that first meeting felt right.

Many texts, phone calls and video calls later you're head over heels for the midfielder. Spending more time at his than yours whenever he has time off from football, meaning getting rides to work from him, even if you insist that you're okay with taking public transit. In true celebrity undercover manner Mason would sometimes show up during your shifts wearing those awful sunglasses and a cap to blend in with other shoppers. While you always tell him how ridiculous it is, you can't help but miss his goofiness when he's away with Chelsea for a couple of matches.

That's what has your mood less chipper when you go in to work for another day of dealing with customers. Your co-workers notice the change but thankfully don't bring it up as you try to distract yourself with work tasks. What you don't know is that Mason has a day off of training and is on his way to surprise you at work. A couple of hours into your shift you don't notice his familiar disguise because you're helping a customer. "Y/N why don't you go help that customer at the till while I take over here" you look up at your colleague with furrowed brows and she tilts her head towards the cash, you look over and a smile appears on your face at who is standing by the counter, "perfect thanks" she nods and you hand off the customer before speed walking across the store.

Once you slide behind the counter in front of Mason he moves his sunglasses on top of his hat, "so I have a question" he says with mock seriousness, "oh yeah, how can I help?" you reply while lifting an eyebrow, "I miss my girlfriend and I was wondering if it's appropriate to kiss her at her place of work?" You grin and peer over his shoulder to make sure no is looking before pressing your hands into the counter to hoist yourself closer to him, "I don't think so but she'll let it slide" he chuckles before pressing a gentle kiss to your lips. You hum while bringing a hand to the side of his face, his coming behind your neck to keep you in place for a few seconds. When he pulls away you can't help but smile, "what are you doing here Mase?" he shifts his hand to brush a thumb along your bottom lip, "we had a day off with no training, figured I would pay my beautiful and hardworking girlfriend a visit" you shake your head, "you didn't have to do that" he scoffs "I wanted to Y/N, I haven't seen you in so long" you bite your lip but Mason easily tugs it from under your teeth to kiss you again.

"Kissing customers now?" you pull away at the sound of your colleague's voice, blushing slightly as you let go of your boyfriend's face to lower back to your feet, "only the ones that are extra nice" is the midfielder's reply, making her laugh. You smile and proceed to round the counter to come to Mason's side, "let me walk you out sir, I know that it can be confusing" you say and take his arm, he put on a straight face and nods at you, quickly saying bye to your colleague before letting you walk him out of the store. "Are you heading back to the team?" you ask and he curls his arm around you, "yeah, but i'll be back home in a couple of days" he replies so you nod, "alright, now go kick ass" he chuckles and presses a soft kiss to your head, your fingers curling into his shirt for a few extra seconds, "love you" he smiles and slides on his sunglasses, "love you baby" you wave and watch him leave down the sidewalk, already missing him even though you'll see him again in three days.

On the day that Mason is supposed to come back home from the few away matches everything at work seems to be going wrong. You can't seem to keep customers happy, not giving them the answers they're looking for, tempers flaring at every little thing. This in turn makes you grumpy when you finally clock out at the end of the day, having forgotten about Mason coming back home. When you walk into your flat you drop your bag, keys and phone, shutting the front door with a sigh, leaning back against it. Your shoulders slump and you slide down the door until you're sitting on the floor with your arms hugging your knees to your chest. "Darling where are you?" Mason asks, his voice makes you open your eyes but you don't have the energy to respond, a closed lip and tired smile appearing on your face when he comes around the corner, his happy expression falling when he sees your state. The shift of mood is the thing that has a few tears rolling down your cheeks, he rushes over and sits next to you before wrapping both of his arms around you to bring you tight to his chest. "I'm so happy that you're here" you murmur and rest your head against his shoulder, he kisses your head and continues to hold you close, "wouldn't want to be anywhere else my love" he whispers.

When you calm down a few minutes later you tell him about the less than stellar day at work, specifically the impatient and rude customers that wore you down to nothing. He spends the rest of the evening comforting and making you feel better, your love for him increasing tenfold as the two of you sit in the bathtub, his fingers massaging your tense muscles as you will away the negative thoughts to truly enjoy his company. "I love you so much Y/N, don't forget that" he murmurs quietly, "I love you Mase, always" you reply and a genuine smile comes to your face as you relax into him.
