I grabbed my suitcase from baggage claim as I called Ryan.

I told him I'd let him know when my flight landed.

"Hello," he answered.

"Hey babe. I made it," I said.

"Oh... that's great," he said slightly distracted.

"Did you get your kids yet?" I asked.

"I'm actually picking them up right now," he said.

"I hope you all have fun," I said.

"I'm sure we will. I hope you have a good time too," he said.

"I will. But I can't wait to be back home with you to celebrate New Years," I smiled.

I headed towards the exit as I was leaving the airport. My brother was supposed to be picking me up.

"I got the kids bags packed. You just need to load them up in the car and we're good to go," I heard a female voice in the background.

"Was that Lauren?" I asked.

Lauren is Ryan's soon to be ex wife and mother of his kids. She's a total bitch from what he's told me about her.

"Yeah. Let me hang up so I can get the kids things put into the car. I'll call you later," Ryan said in a rush.

"Ok babe. I love you and hope you have a good time with your kids," I said.

I was waiting for Ryan to say he loved me too but he just hung up.

I put my phone in my bag as I walked outside.

I headed to the curb and saw that my father was here to pick me up not my brother.

"Daddy!" I said happily.

My father had a huge smile on his face as I hurried over to him.

No matter how old I get I think I'll always be a daddy's girl.

Being away from my parents and brother does make the heart grow fonder.

"There's my angel," my father said as I walked into his embrace.

My dad gave me the tightest hug and I hugged him back just as tight.

"Let me get a good look at you," he said as we pulled away.

He gave me a once over.

"Yup my baby girl is still the same as I remember," he smiled.

I smiled and my father took my suitcase.

I got in the car as he put my luggage in the trunk.

He got in the car a few seconds later and started the engine.

As we put on our seatbelts I asked why Mason hadn't been the one to pick me up as planned.

"So what happened to Mason?" I asked.

"It's a long story," my father said as he pulled away from the curb.

"How about we talk about it over burgers...." I suggested.

"I like the way you think baby girl," my father smiled.

My father and I use to always get burgers or ice cream together. Like father daughter dates when I was growing up. We've always been close.
