Madelyn did not sleep well at all. She could not turn her thoughts off for one second. Something wasn't right.
"Shepherd, I need help with a hip disarticulation toady, you want in" Owen says walking knot the attending's lounge
"Actually. I can't, my day is full of surgeries I have rescheduled over and over again, sorry" she replies
"No problem" Owen says "Uhh Torres?"
"Ohh, maybe. I'll think about if I want to be the second option" Callie replies
"Uh, wait, you have to finish your story" Maggie says "So, you actually had to break his knee?" she asks Callie as she walks over to Madelyn who's pouring herself a cup of coffee
"No, so I had to shove the rod back in there even harder, and it wound up cracking the tibial plateau" Callie replies
"Can I help you?" Madelyn asks as Alex lingers over her shoulder
"You're hogging the pot" he says
"Maybe asks nicely, like a civilized human being" Maggie suggests "Madelyn, may I have the carafe, please?"
"Oh. Of course" Madelyn says handing it over to the woman
"See, it's quite easy, actually" Maggie says "Really?" she scolds Alex who moves her cup out of the way so his can be filled up
"I don't know how Jo puts up with you" Madelyn mutters
"Hey, Mer" Maggie says noticing the blonde woman making everyone look over at her "I heard there was weather near Dulles. Dereks flight got delayed, didn't it?"
Maggie doesn't have to wait for a response as Richard walks over to her talking about needing help with one of his patients.
Everyone else goes back to casual conversion, however Madelyn's eyes are glued to Mer who looks like she needs to say something
"Oh, Madelyn" Callie says bringing her out of her thoughts
"Derek is dead"
"I'm going to need your help with a patient later, I just can't seem to figure out the right course of treatment-"
"Derek is dead"
Madelyn could've sworn she heard something, almost like a whisper "What was that?" she asks turning her attention away from Callie and back to Meredith
"Derek is dead"
Everyone's face instantly falls. The silence was deafening.
"Meredith..." Alex says
"Meredith" Owen says standing up
