One more week, just 7 more days then Madelyn could finally go back to work. She was bored beyond bored. Don't get her wrong she loves Alexis, but she needed to get back to work.

"Okay, Shhh" Madelyn tries to get Alexis to stop crying "Shh please, it's okay" she whispers placing a kiss on the side of her head "Ohh, what's the matter, huh?"

"Hi" April says entering the kitchen

"Hey, is today your day?" Madelyn asks "Oh God, sorry I completely forgot" she apologises

"Missing work?" April smiles

"Yeah" Madelyn replies "Alexis,  I love you so much" she whispers kissing the top of her head "But you, are going with Mommy, yes" she says handing her to April

"Hi sweet girl" April coos "What's the matter?"

"Rough morning. She hasn't stopped crying" Madelyn informs the redhead

"Do you think she's sick? Does she have a fever?" April asks frantically

"She's fine, i've checked, don't worry" Madelyn says "Maybe she's tired?"

"Well, maybe I should take her to the hospital, get them to run some test-"

"April" Madelyn says "She's okay, she probably just needs a nap"

"Okay, well uh, how- how are you?" April asks

"Good, great. Much better" Madelyn replies

"You sure? Is there anything I can do for you?" April asks

"I promise i'm fine" Madelyn reassures

April nods "Okay then, I should get going"

"Yeah, bye" Madelyn says "Bye baby" she coos kissing Alexis' cheek

Meredith had won a Harper Avery award! Madelyn knew she'd do it one day. The brunette had never been one to care about awards, but the need to go back to work had her thinking maybe that should become a goal of hers. She could do something similar to what Callie and Derek did. With Amelia of course. The youngest Shepherd's winning a Harper Avery. Now that would be something amazing. Or maybe Jackson, focusing on burns.

"What's going on in that mind of yours?" Willow asks turning to face Madelyn who's staring up at the bedroom ceiling

"Nothing much" Madelyn replies "How's my Ortho department?" she asks

"It's good, I mean we could use you, but i've got it under control" Willow replies "Why'd you ask?"

"I'm thinking, maybe when I get back to work, I might take a step back from surgery" Madelyn replies

"What? Why?" Willow questions

"I want to do something bigger" Madelyn replies

"You wanna take a step back to do some research?" Willow asks

"Yeah" Madelyn replies

"On what?"

"You'll have to wait and see" Madelyn replies

"You're seriously not going to tell me?" Willow asks, this time a hint of annoyance in her voice

"You're not actually mad about that, are you?" Madelyn ask turning to face the blonde

"I don't know. Should I be?" Willow asks

"No"

"Would you tell April?"

"Oh my god!" Madelyn exclaims "Can we not talk about April, for once?"

"Sorry" Willow mutters turning away from Madelyn

"Willow" Madelyn sighs

"Goodnight Madelyn"

Madelyn sighs, getting up from the bed

"Where are you going?" Willow asks

"I'm staying with Jo" Madelyn replies slamming the door on her way out
