He hesitated for a split second. "Fine, I guess. Why, you know something I don't?"

He said, laughing - nervously, Elaine thought.

"Not really. She didn't seem to feel too well yesterday."

"Fit as a fiddle as far as I know. Look, have you had lunch? Maybe we could go somewhere."


Thank you but no, Tommy, I have some errands to run and I wanted to check out this sale at Nuvo's."

"Sure," he said "Some other time." He left Elaine as she walked into the door of the gallery and went for his car.

But Elaine's antenna was up; something was amiss and she knew it. Cassie and Steve were right about Elaine, she was a bit nosy although Elaine preferred to think of it as curious.

She waited a moment in the doorway and just as the salesperson came to see if she needed assistance with the door, she brushed him off saying she'd forgotten something and got back into her car. She kept her eye on Tom through the rear view mirror and after he pulled out of his space, she followed him.
