Part  2

"No, at least it's not the locked ward."

"Locked ward?"

"Yes, the place they put you when you first arrive at this charming little establishment." Cassie spoke bitterly. "A lot of real loonys in there."

"I didn't know."

"Neither did I, " Cass spoke bitterly. "That's where they teach you to fall in line."

 "Fall in line?" Elaine said.

"Yes. They give you a whole handful of pills and then check your mouth with a tongue depressor to make sure you've swallowed them all. And you don't want to give them an argument about it or they'll take you to a nice little room and strap you onto a gurney and keep the door locked until they feel you've learned your lesson."

"The puffiness - it's the pills."

Elaine kept silent a moment. "Well, I can't say it's your best look, kid," she said, attempting humor. She was trying to figure out how to bring up her visit to Paula's house. Finally, she just said it:

"I talked to Paula, Cass."

Cassie just looked at her. "Oh? And how'd that go, Elaine?" She said, sarcastically.
