☆Alexis' POV
“Don't go in there!” he screams.
I shake my head.
“They always go in there” I say.
The door opens and the pediatrician walks in.
“How's my favorite little boy doing today?” she asks.
“I'm out of popcorn balls” Dylan says.
I pause the movie and laugh.
“It's good to see you so active. Your mom's outside”.
Dylan and I exchange looks. I smile at him and get up from the couch.
“You ready for your treatment?” I whisper.
“It's a hospital, no one's ever ready for anything” he whispers back.
I laugh.
“C'mon” I say and lift him up.
We walk outside and see Yvonne.
“You ready champ?” she asks.
He's quiet. I see Mrs. Levi watching me.
“Hey, look it's mom” I say to him.
He looks towards the direction I'm pointing and the woman smiles. He doesn't.
“Dill?”.
He smiles.
“That was fake” Yvonne whispers to me.
My sarcasm was rubbing off on him. I set him down in the wheelchair.
“Are you going to come with me today Alex?” he asks.
I look at his mother. She looked depressed.
“You know I can't. But mom's gonna go with you and remember what I said last time, that...”.
“... everything's better when your mom's around” he cuts me off.
I smile.
“That's right. I love how you're so smart” I grin. “Nurse Yvonne will be going with you too”.
His mother walks to us and gives him a kiss.
“Mom!” he whines.
She just smiles.
“C'mon” she says to Yvonne.
She begins to wheel him away.
“Wait!” he calls and jumps out of the chair.
“Dylan!” his mother calls.
He runs back to give me a hug. I hug him back.
“Will you be here when I get back?”.
“Always” I smile and peck his cheek.
He grins.
“When I get older, I'm going to marry you” he says.
I giggle.
“Go on. Hey, and remember to tell your mom your sorry”.
He nods and walks back to them. I watch him speak to his mom and give her a hug. She smiles with tears in her eyes.
I smile too. She looks at me and nods.
“Look who's stepping up”.
I smile.
“Shouldn't you be working?”.
“I am. I'm making sure my niece is in one piece”.
I laugh.
