☆ Alexis' POV

The family come down the stairs, with a guard who was carrying Alina. Yara meets my eyes.

“She has a real crown? Cool” Milton grins. “I want a crown for my birthday, mom”.

“Mill, maybe you shouldn't give her the flowers” Yara says to him.

“Wait, she's the friend you made?” Renee asks.

“I had no idea she was theirs” I say, my eyes not leaving the family even as the princess is put in her fancy wheelchair.

“Can I go say hi?” Milton asks.

I hold him firmly at my side.

“Don't move” I say.

He stays still. But I can tell how confused he is.

“Thank you all for honoring our invitation!” Colton addresses everyone in the room. “Enjoy yourselves!”.

The orchestra begins to play and everyone begins to disperse and the chattering resumes.

“Can I go say hello now?”.

“Mill” Yara whispers to him to drop it.

He frowns and I sigh.

“Alexis you made it!” Zariana chirps and throws her arms around me.

“Careful Zari. These people are just waiting to report a scandal” Renee chuckles.

Zariana pulls away from me and smiles.

“And you brought Milton. Hi”.

He doesn't respond.

“What's wrong?” Zariana asks.

“Nothing, he's just...”.

“I just wanted to say hi to Alina and give her these flowers because she likes them but mom said no” he cuts me off.

Oh, this child.

Zariana smiles at him.

“Well don't be sad Milton” she says. “Alina's going to love these flowers”.

“When you give them to her later” I add.

“Oh no. I'll go get her right now” Zariana says and turns away.

She didn't even say anything about the dress.

“Oh great!” I say sarcastically.

Milton looks at me and shifts away a little.

“You just couldn't wait a little longer?” I ask him.

He's quiet.

“Hey, calm down” Renee whispers to me. “I'll go get you a drink”.

I sigh and look at Yara as Renee leaves us.

“Okay I see why popcorn ice cream and SpongeBob would have been a better option now” Yara says.

“Alina!” Milton chirps.

I look and see Zariana wheeling her toward us with Colton and Shannon following closely behind.

“Hi, Milton” she smiles and holds out her hand.

He takes it and smiles at her.

“I got you roses” he says to her.

“Really? Where are they?”.

I watch my six-year-old son carefully guide Alina's fingers towards the bouquet and she brings it up to her nose and takes a whiff.
