"Mummy!"

"I know Sweetie, it's alright. . ."

You pulled her hair away from her face and gently held her him your arms as the fourth round of half digested food today splashed into the bucket heavily. You grimaced as your only child heaved and spluttered, tears falling uncontrollably down her cute little chubby face.

"Mummy, please make it stop!" Mia gasped, trembling violently in your arms.
"I would if I could Beautiful," you whispered. It hurt you to see your four year old like this, she was still only little and this was probably one of the first times something like this had happened to her. It had been a shock too, she had been fine early this morning, if a little bit quiet, and then not long after your husband Niall left for work you were scrubbing vomit out of the carpet.

You glanced at your watch anxiously. You had to be out of here within the next ten minutes or you wouldn't make it to your meeting. Niall said he would be home ten minutes ago but he still hadn't come through the door and you were beginning to get worried. This meeting wasn't one you could just skip or walk in to late.

"Honey, I'm home! Sorry I'm late!"

You sighed in relief as he practically stampeded into the living room, looking a little panicked because of the lateness. His sheepish smile dropped when he saw you cradling Mia on the couch. He dropped his things and hurried over, questions shooting from mouth faster than lightning.
"What happened? Do we need to to go to the hospital? Is she even alive? What do I do? When-"

"Ni, she's okay, just a stomach bug I think," you explained, sending him a sweet smile to reassure him.
"Daddy. . ." Mia whined quietly, blinking slowly. You knew she would be crashing in the next few seconds.

Niall crouched down next to you, moving the bucket to the side without a moments hesitation. He caressed Mia's sweat forehead gently, his fingers barely a breeze on her flushed skin.
"I'm here Mimi," he muttered before clicking out of it and shaking your shoulder a little urgently.
"You have to leave now or-"

"Shit, okay, just look after Mia! I'll be back later!" You exclaimed, giving Mia's warm little body to Niall, grabbing your jacket and hurrying out the door.

Niall's POV

It was only when I looked down at my sleeping and sick daughter that I realised what I had gotten myself into. I could barely look after myself when I was poorly, how was I meant to make my darling Mia feel better when I had no clue what I was doing? She'd never been ill like this before, I was going to be absolutely useless.

Mia groaned in my grasp and I looked down at her helplessly. After a moment I stood up and carried her to her room, placing her gently on her bed and covering her in her fluffy pink duvet. I went to the kitchen and filled up a glass for when she woke up and as a second thought moved the bucket to her bedside after cleaning it out.
I wasn't really sure what to do next so I just sat in her room and pretty much stared at her creepily. In my head it made sense. I didn't have anything else to do and I didn't want her waking up sick and on her own.

"Daddy, I'm hungry."
I was almost asleep when Mia's small voice shook me awake and I looked over to see her sitting up and looking at me hopefully.
"What would you like to eat Mimi?" I got to my feet.

She grinned sheepishly, tucking a strawberry blond lock behind her ear, "do we have cake?
"What if you throw it up, Gorgeous? You should probably eat something lighter. . ." I suggested, my heart clenching as he smile dropped a little.
"So no cake?"
"Sorry Sweetie," I shook my head, "how about we go watch TV and I'll grab you some toast."

She looked a little disappointed but she nodded nonetheless and slowly got out of her bed. She was awfully pale but I guess if she's hungry she must be feeling better. I followed her out the door with the bucket.

"Can we watch the little mermaid?" She asked cutely, looking at me with those big blue pleading eyes. Even if I wanted to say no I wouldn't be able to.
"Sure Bub." I smiled and put the DVD in the player and switching on the TV.
I couldn't help but hum along to the music as I made the toast, this was far from the first time I had watched this movie. Mia was going through a phase and I'm pretty sure this was at least the twelfth watching this week.

"Here Mimi, eat up, slowly please." I put the cool plate on her little lap.
"Thank you Daddy." She grinned toothily.
"Are you sure you're feeling better? Is your tummy still funny??" I asked, still not sure about feeding her. I would've texted you but the last thing I wanted was to disrupt your meeting.

"It's okay." She nodded happily, crunching on the crusts with her eyes locked on the movie.
We watched, Mia giggling appropriately and singing along. She went completely quiet after a while and then she began squirming in the cushions, soft sounds coming from her lips every now and then
"Are you alright sweetie?" I asked her gently.
"Daddy. . ." She whined warningly, looking ready to burst into tears, "my tummy hurts."

"Aw, Mimi come here." I held out my arms and she crawled into them, snuggling into the crook of my neck. I nudged the bucket closer with my foot, trying to get it easier to access without scaring Mia.

Five minutes passed and then she suddenly sat up straight, knocking the top of her head harshly on my chin. I made a sound as my mouth filled with blood. I swallowed it down with a grimace and tried to calm down Mia as she began to gag.
She was leaned over the side of the couch dry heaving, almost throwing herself off the couch.

"Mia. . .just breathe Bub" I instructed unsurely, laying hand on her sweaty back.

"I c-can't Daddy!" She cried out and I almost snapped and burst into tears myself. She retched violently and suddenly and I only just managed to stop myself from looking away as the toast hit the bucket in a very different form that it had been earlier.
She was sobbing now, her face flushed and little hiccups escaped her chapped lips. I wrapped her in my arms tenderly and whispered in her ear, trying to get her to stop crying. There wasn't anything I hated more than seeing my little girl crying. Seeing her throwing up like she was possessed had been pretty awful too but the crying would always be the worst.

Finally it stopped and Mia was just trying to contain the sobs that were racking through her little body.
"Do you feel any better after that Mimi?" I asked her, my voice barely any louder than a whisper. She just nodded tiredly and fell back into me, her eyes straining to stay open.
"That's good, get some more sleep then beautiful."
I leaned back and she snuggled into my side, her body heat definitely warmer than it was meant to be. She was like a big hot water bottle. I paused the TV and closed my own eyes, ready for the darkness the come.

Your POV

I was feeling nothing but anxious throughout the whole meeting, my mind and body itching to get back home and look after Mia. I hoped Niall was doing okay with her. I'm sure he was. I knew it was a bit out of his comfort zone but I trusted him.

When it was finally finished I sped home, ignoring the toots and squeals of tires. I was overreacting, I knew I was, but my daughter was ill and I had to be there for her.

When I reached the house I parked the car and hurriedly rushed inside, chucking everything onto the floor in a similar way Niall had earlier. To be completely honest I stepped into the living room expecting chaos. Vomit all over everything, Niall looking completely lost and horrified and Mia screaming and crying. When I saw my two favourite people in the world tucked up together on the couch I couldn't help the happy smile that crept onto my face. They looked absolutely adorable. Mia was snoring softly, one arm hanging off the side of the couch and Niall was wrapped around her petite figure like a big fluffy bear.

They were definitely okay, I don't know what I was worried about.

I wasn't really sure how to write this, I found it quite difficult actually and it's definitely not my best but I wanted to get something up after all reading and voting that's been happening in the last couple of days. Thanks everyone for reading!
