I hummed in mock thoughtfulness, staring up into Lila's gorgeous pale blue eyes with an uncontrollable smile stretched all the way across my cheeks, "you know how amazing you are, right? Have I said that before? I don't know if I have actually. . ."

She chuckled, "oh quit it, you sappy try hard. You've already gotten me to marry you, what more could you possibly want?"

Before I could say anything else two things happened at once and I jumped in shock, almost tossing Lila across the room. Thankfully she managed to cling on to my upper arms.

Mara's loud cries continued to echo around the house, almost completely drowning out the ringtone bursting obnoxiously out of my phone.

"I'll get Mara, you answer that."

Lila slid off of me and hurried off in the direction of the kitchen, where Mara's cries seemed to be coming from. I cast a worried glance after her, wanting to know if my daughter was okay before doing something as trivial as answering a phone call. Lila had told me to answer it though, and I didn't like going against her words so I yanked my phone out of my pocket and did as I was told.

"Hey, Harry here, what do ya need?" I asked, not even checking whose number it was. I was rushing, wanting to see if Mara was alright. The crying was still going on and I could hear Lila trying to calm her. The tap switched on.

"Hi mate, you're gonna have to come down to the field and get Jackson," the person on the other end of the line stated apologetically, causing a frown to come over me along with a load of confusion.

I recognised the voice and blurted the next couple of questions, "Matt? What, why?"

"He's had a bit of a fall, collided with another player on the field. He hasn't let us call an ambulance," Matt replied, successfully making my heart jump into action within two seconds. Not that it hadn't been going hard already, but the word ambulance made it race even faster.

I jogged into the kitchen to tell Lila I was leaving, murmuring a quick 'be there soon' to Matt and hanging up.

I was just glad that I had answered my phone.

"Hey, Jack's hurt himself, I've gotta go pick him up," I jabbered hurriedly, sliding into a pair of shoes.

Lila looked up, "is he okay?"

I was already on my way to the door, "I dunno, the quicker I get there the quicker I'll find out."

"I shut my finger in the draw, Daddy!" Mara cried tearfully.

"Mummy will make it all better for you Sweetie!" I called back, shutting the door behind me and bounding towards the car.

The drive to the football field was usually about quarter of an hour but I managed to get there in eight minutes, my panic somehow splitting the time in half. I might've skipped a red light at one point, and swerved onto the wrong side of the road a few times to pass slow cars but other than that it was safe. Mostly.

I parked as close as I could and was out of the car at record speed, peering over the fields and trying to pick out Matt in the crowd of people. I spotted him after a second or too and made my way over as quickly as I could without looking like an idiot. Not only for my sake but Jackson's, I knew that he wouldn't be at all impressed if I embarrassed him.

"Hey, Matt," I greeted, panting a little.

"Hiya Haz, you got here pretty fast."

I shrugged, "might've been a little over the limit."

"Dad, have we got another water bottle?" Came a familiar voice and Matt turned slightly to acknowledge his son, allowing me my first sighting of my own.
