Serena liked Fernando.

She never disliked him.

But she really enjoyed who he was when he opened up. When he wasn't just another appointment.

She liked when he was a client. A player. A teammate. Maybe, even a friend.

This whole winter had been a drag, whether she wanted to admit it or not. This wasn't supposed to be all the player's breaks, but it was also for the staff and coaches too.

Despite being given the option of sticking around in San Diego and working basically every day or enjoying her break, she took the work option.

And after all this, as little as her interactions seemed with Fernando Tatis Jr, she was starting to feel happy she stuck around.

Fernando felt like more than a friend or client.

Fernando felt like he was her.

As little as she tried to share about her personal life, Fernando sounded a whole lot like her a few years ago.

His mindset was like hers. The way he felt towards certain people... especially his parents and the way they treated him, was very similar to her thought process and opinions.

He was stuck, like her. And until he chose to open up, he wouldn't ever be able to fly.

Lately, Fernando made it clear he didn't just need help, he genuinely wanted it. He wanted to get better.

Serena proudly smiled that it had finally awakened in him, as her eyes went towards the window and gazed down at the little speck in right field.

Fernando had been out there all day fielding plays in the outfield. He took her advice evidently.

Bonus points, he was also getting Jake Cronenworth's lonely a$$ out of his condo.

Still beaming, the girl continued to watch Jake hit the ball to Fernando, as he ran and made plays, throwing home once in a while.

She always enjoyed where her office was positioned because of her perfect view of right field. She'd seen a lot of amazing players play in that position.

Which reminded her... Wil.

Her eyes slowly found their way to the Polaroid of her an Wil Myers still on her wall.

Wil still hadn't called.

Seeing what happened last time with her and MacK when she texted first, she wasn't planning on contacting him for awhile.

It was a slap in the face with how close her and the Myers family were and knowing that despite contacting everyone else, he still hadn't contacted her once. Not even a "Hi".

Serena frowned, walking over to that spot on the wall where the photo was positioned.

Call her bitter, jealous even. The blonde slowly took the picture off the wall, setting it face down on her desk.

Then, she slid her hand into her pocket, pulling out a different photo that was coincidentally taken today. She'd wandered out there earlier to say hello to the pair of men before they began training, and Jake insisted on getting an off-season flick to show how Fernando was preparing for his return.

Serena stuck the photo on the wall in place of her and Wil's perfectly.

As bad or wrong as she felt taking her and Wil's down despite their problems... Fernando felt like the only good option to be in place of him.
