"well maybe if you had to decency to text me after you jumped ship you'd know i wasn't dead." she playfully shot back.

"fernando told me you said hi. so i thought i'd call."
"i'm sorry serena."

"i know. that's why i'm sorry. i was a coward." he exhaled. serena could almost envision wil's eyes dropping to the floor just about now. "after what you told me in philly on my last game, i was too scared to call you and tell you about going to cincinnati. i know it's so stupid, but... i thought you should know."
serena then looked down, a fresh breeze swaying through her hair.
"i've been meaning to text you. i typed and untyped a text almost every other day that i wanted to send you. i've been such a jerk."
"ugh." she said bluntly, after a long silence.
"huh?" he asked.

"does this mean we're calling it even?"
"mmm," she hummed, "william bradford myers, you are in luck. serena lense does forgive."

"i'll doordash you a meal a day for the next week."
