"nate, please listen to me. i told you i want nothing to do with him." serena assured, an irked expression smothered across her face as her tiny feet pattered across the train station.

"if we're going to be serious you need to clue me in on this guy that's obsessed with you," nate reasoned from the other side of the phone call.

they'd been arguing for almost three days straight about the exact same person that couldn't seem to get out of serena's life.

"i don't know what to say to you! he's like, psychotic...!" she blurted out with embarrassment, "we were together for a month and now him and his posse won't leave me alone. i don't think he even wants me back, i think he just wants to fight with me." the girl snarled in disbelief. she wasn't angry with nate, just irritated by the ever lingering topic of fernando.

her feelings changed every day on him. today, she was utterly annoyed with even the mention of his name.

"this is a mess, serena." nate sighed, sensing her emotion even from his side of the phone.

"i told you i came with baggage," the brunette snarked humorously, even though it wasn't really that funny.

"lots of it..." he sarcastically added. serena could tell by his tone that he had a troubled frown on his face.

"serena!" aunt lily exclaimed, finding her niece's striking eyes.

"nate, i have to go." serena excused quickly, hanging up speedily as she grinned gigantically at her family members.

the women exchanged hugs, as little russell stood tensely by his mother's side. he loved seeing serena, but he wasn't a fan of new york. it was much different than the quiet suburbs of sherbrooke.

"hey russ," serena smiled, pulling the boy into a warm hug. he'd most likely be hanging out with her most of his trip while his mom was working.

"hi serena." he returned hushly.

his tone and body language was always so timid. it oftentimes concerned serena.

"russ, why don't you walk to starbucks and get a cake pop while i talk to serena for a moment." lily suggested, handing the boy five dollars while gesturing for him to go into the coffee shop they were right outside of.

he nodded, taking the money reluctantly before dejectedly shuffling inside.

"i appreciate you looking after us," the woman stated gratefully to serena. lily had an emergency appointment and they needed to get to new york ASAP.
