In this Derek is 18, Stiles is 16, the fire never happened, and Claudia's alive. Continue on.

Derek POV

I heard the sound of car doors shutting outside. The Stilinski's were supposed to be over for Christmas today. It wasn't surprising. My mom and Claudia have been friends since they were in highschool.

I heard a knock on the door and Stiles whine with a "Mom, it's fine. Stop."

I laughed opening the door. "Hi." I said moving so they could come inside.

Stiles hit my arm as he toed of his shoes. "Miss me?" He joked.

"Not even a little." I shot back glaring.

"No Hale glare. It's Christmas."

"Tomorrow's Christmas." I said walking into the kitchen where my mom and Claudia were.

"Hi, Talia!" Stiles smiled as my mom pulled him into a hug.

"Hey, kiddo."

Stiles clung to his mom while I grabbed a couple water bottles. Most people thought it weird for him to be so attached to his mom but she had been fighting cancer for the past year, thankfully, still fighting through.

I nodded at Stiles seeing him hug his mom and shout a quick "love you!" before following me.

We passed Cora's room on the way to mine hearing her talking to someone on the phone. I knocked rapidly on the door making her yell.

"You're an ass." Stiles laughed walking past me.

"I know." I followed him into my room.

"Where's Laura?" He asked.

"She's on her way." I said

Stiles nodded.

"Okay, what's wrong?"

"What do you mean?" He asked rolling from his back to his stomach.

"You're not as talkative today."

He shrugged. "It doesn't feel like Christmas." He said changing the subject.

"I guess. We're going ice skating after dinner. Are you guys coming?"

"Yeah. If my mom's still up to it."

"Cool."

Stiles sighed getting up and walking out of my room.

----

During dinner Stiles sat quietly glancing up at me from across the table. I rolled my eyes at him seeing him smirk.

"So, Stiles, I heard you got the lead in the play at school." My dad's voice broke our gazes from each other.

"Oh...um..yeah, I did."

I kicked him under the table. "I didn't even know you auditioned."

Stiles nodded. "Awh Der, don't be upset, you can still go see your little Boyfriend perform." Cora teased.

I rolled my eyes seeing Stiles' cheeks tint pink as he looked down.

"Up yours, Cora." I said.

"Derek." My mom snapped.

"Sorry."

-----

"Sti, seriously what's wrong?" I pulled him to the side when we got the the ice skating rink.

"I don't want to talk about it." He snapped.

"Stiles!" I made him look at me.

"Derek, stop."

"No, tell me what's wrong."

"You're leaving!" He yelled.

"What are you talking about!?"

"I know you got into NYU!"

"I'm not going to NYU, Sti." I said laughing lightly.

"Then why'd you apply?"

"My mom wanted me to." I pulled him into a hug. "Are you seriously that worried about me graduating?"

He nodded into my shoulder. "I don't wanna lose you." He cried. "I can't. Derek, my mom's not getting any better I can't lose you both."

"Look at me." I said pushing him away a little. "I'm not going anywhere and your mom is going to push through. I promise."

He nodded biting his lip and wiping his cheek. "Cheer up, it's Christmas."  I said.

"Sorry." He whispered.

"Hey, Stiles." Laura came over to us. "Hey, what's wrong?"

"Nothing." I said.

Laura sighed. "You're mom and dad are going to head home. They said you could stay if you wanted."

"You're gonna stay right?" I asked.

He nodded "Yeah, I'm gonna go talk to them though."

"Okay." I said watching him walk off.

"What's wrong with him?" Laura asked.

"Laura, no."

-----

I felt Stiles grab onto my hand to catch his balance before laughing. "When was the last time we went ice skating?"

"I have no clue." I said.

"We should more often."

"Are you going anywhere on new years?"

"No."

"Let's go ice skating." I laughed.

"Can we really?"

----

Stiles and I hung out most of the night. I finally got him to start rambling again like he always does. He was talking about the play almost all night until his phone went off. His dad telling him to come home.

By the time we got to his house it was after midnight. I walked him to his door. "Text me when you get up." I said.

He nodded. "I'm so glad my family doesn't get up at the ass crack of dawn like yours."

"I'm pray every year for change." I laughed.

"I know." He said grabbing my hand.

I smiled kissing his cheek.

"You missed." He said softly.

"What do you mean?"

"You missed." He said pressing his lips to mine.

I smiled into the kiss. "Oh." I said against his lips kissing him again.

I felt him snake his arms around my neck as I pulled him closer by wrapping my arms around his waist.

He smiled this time.

"Merry Christmas, Stiles."

"Merry Christmas, Der."
