Part 2 of Must've Been The Wind

It started becoming routine for Derek to be at Stiles' apartment. He never wanted to talk about anything but did mention that he wanted the distraction, the company. Stiles even ended up giving Derek a spare key so if he ever needed it he had it.

Stiles never asked Derek to talk. If the wolf showed up and was clearly upset or had been crying Stiles just shrugged and muttered, "the wind."

Derek would respond, "the wind."

So today shocked Stiles to say the least.

"The wind?" He asked.

"A storm." Derek mumbled, following Stiles toward the couch.

"You wanna talk?" He asked, turning his body toward the other giving him his full attention.

Derek was quiet, seeming as if he was debating on whether or not he wanted to. "I didn't tell the pack I came back because I didn't want to be a pain."

"Der, you're not a pain. You're important. You're pack."

"Cora and I got into a huge fight while we were gone. It's why I came back." He looked down, starting to pick at his fingernails as he spoke, "I don't remember what the fight was even about. I just remember her yelling and crying and telling me that if I wasn't so stupid and self-centered our family would still be alive

"I know she didn't mean it, she immediately apologized and she keeps apologizing. She was mad. It's what we tend to do when we get mad. We jab each other. But she's never...we haven't really spoken much since. I just...I know it's my fault. I know I was stupid."

Stiles kept quiet waiting to make sure Derek was done before speaking. "Derek it's re-"

"I don't want you to tell me it's not my fault, Stiles." Derek sighed. "I just...I was getting better. I was moving past this whole thing and now I feel like I'm starting all over. I'm having nightmares and I'm constantly thinking about it and worrying about getting Cora killed and I don't know what to do. I just wish Laura was here. She always knew what to do."

The other sighed, "okay, I won't say it's not your fault-even though it's not-what do you need though? Anything? Advice? Distraction?"

"Company?" Derek asked, softly.

Stiles smiled, "I think I can do that."

Weeks passed with a pretty steady routine. Derek would come over to Stiles' place when the younger got home from school or work and they'd sit up and watch TV or Derek would help on Stiles with his homework. Stiles even managed to get Derek to message the whole pack to let them know where he was and that he was doing alright.

Stiles came home after work to see the light in his hallway on, he looked around seeing Derek's jacket and shoes by the door and smiled taking his shoes off and dropping his backpack to the floor.

He found Derek curled up on the couch, frown glued to his face, eyes red and puffy.

"Wind?" Stiles asked, kneeling to rub his hand through Derek's hair.

"Wind." He mumbled back.

"Hurricane?"

Derek smirked a bit, air shooting out his nose in laughter. "No, not a hurricane."

"Wanna watch a movie?" Stiles asked, moving to grab the remote.

"Can you just lay with me?" His voice was quiet and Stiles barely heard him. He set the remote back onto the coffee table and nodded.

Derek sat up allowing Stiles to lay down with him, the wolf dropped his head on the youngers chest, Stiles wrapping his arms around him.

"Thank you for caring, Stiles."

"You don't need to thank me."

Derek looked up at him, "I spoke to Cora."

"Yeah? How'd that go?"

"I think we're okay." He pushed himself up more so he was looking at the other from above.

"Good. I miss Cora."

Derek dropped his head pressing their lips together, Stiles didn't hesitate to wrap his hand around the others neck and kiss him back. "Sorry, I just really wanted to do that." Derek whispered as they parted.

"I really want you to do it again." Stiles whispered back. The wolf smiled leaning down again. If the neighbors heard anything, well, it must've been the wind.
