Kai walked through the narrow halls of the train trying to find a place to sit. All the compartments were full and at this point Kai thought it might be best just to take refuge in the bathroom.

She slide open a compartment door and saw three kids lock in a serious conversation.
" My bad." Kai said before she started to leave.
" Hey! Kai!" Harry called after her.
" Oh hi Harry. Sorry I didn't mean to interrupt." Kai told him.
" No, your not interrupting anything. Why don't you sit with us?" Harry suggested.
Kai looked at the two other kids sitting across from Harry.
" I don't know-" Kai started.

" Come on please." Harry smiled.
Kai contemplated her options. It was either this or the bathroom. She sighed and complied. Kai shut the door behind her and sat next to Harry. Again, an uneasy feeling erupted in Kai's stomach being so close to him.
" Ron, Hermione, this is Kai Romanoff. Kai this is Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger." Harry introduced them.

" Hi. Who's that?" Kai asked looking over at the sleeping man.
" Our new professor. He was asleep, when we got here." Harry explained.
" Yeah he's out cold." Kai nodded studying his breathing pattern.

" Uh yeah. So Kai are you new here?" Hermione asked.
" Yeah." Kai nodded answering vaguely.
Hermione looked between the boys signaling them to help her get Kai to talk.
" Are you from America?" Ron asked.
" What gave it away? My accent?" Kai asked.
Again the three looked at each other.
" That was a joke. Uh I'm from Russia, but I've lived in America for the last eight years." Kai told them.

" Oh that's amazing. I've never been to Russia, is it as cold as everyone says?" Hermione asked happily.
" Colder." Kai told her.
" Are you a third year?" Ron asked.
" Uh yeah I think that's what it's called. I'm thirteen soo.." Kai started.
" Yep your a third year." Hermione nodded.
" Your owl is beautiful." Harry commented.
" Oh yeah. Her name is Leia." Kai looked down at her owl in the cage by her feet.

" Like from StarWars?" Harry asked.
Kai smiled genuinely and nodded.
" Yeah it was the first movie I saw when I moved to America. It was the first movie I saw ever actually." Kai told him.
" This is my owl. Hedwig." Harry placed his caged owl in his lap.
Kai looked and bird then back at Harry.
" He's cute." Kai smiled.
" Thanks." Harry blushed.

" So Kai, we're your parents nervous for you to come to school here. I know my parents were being muggles and all." Hermione asked trying to connected with the girl.
" Oh I don't have parents." Kai answered without thinking.
" Oh I'm sorry, I didn't mean to-" Hermione started.
" Oh no don't worry. I have a caretaker who I guess is like my mom, but she's more an older sister honestly." Kai explained.

" I don't have parents either. Mine died when I was baby." Harry told her.
" Oh I'm sorry." Kai told him.
" What happened to yours?" Ron asked bluntly.
" Ronald." Hermione scolded.
" It's alright. I don't know what happened to them." Kai shrugged.
" Do you wish you did?" Harry asked.
Kai thought for a moment.
" No." Kai answered.

Suddenly the train stopped.
" Are we at the school?" Kai asked.
" No we can't be." Hermione shook her head.
" Guys there's something out their." Ron looked out the window.
The window froze over and so did the water in a bottle next to the sleeping man.
" Does this usually happen?" Kai asked.
" Never." Harry answered.

A dark shadow moved past their compartment door. The four kids jumped away from the door. Then it came back and started opening the door. Kai has seen some scary shit in her life, this was the scariest.
" What the fuck-" Kai started.
Suddenly Harry started shaking uncontrollably. Kai stood completely unsure what she should do. She looked back at the creature. Guess she'll have to fight it off. She brought her fist back when the man stood up blasted the thing away with a white light.

Harry had fell to the floor and the other three looked at the man.
" Where you really going to attempt to fight off a dementor with your fist?" The man asked amused.
" Okay you don't get to talk, you were asleep almost the whole time." Kai told him.
He chuckled and kneeled down next to Harry.
" Is he going to be alright?" Ron asked.
" He'll be just fine. We'll just give him a moment to wake up-oh hello." Remus started but Harry started waking up.

" Ugh what happened? What was that thing?" Harry asked sitting up and rubbing his head.
" That was a dementor. There looking for Sirius Black." The man explained.
An uneasy washed over Kai at the name hearing the name, but in the way that she felt around Harry. This feeling was a different uneasy feeling.

" Here eat this, it will help." He handed Harry a chocolate bar.
" Thanks for the help back there." Kai told him.
" Anytime. Now I'm going to have a little chat with the driver." He said leaving the compartment.
" I have a good feeling about that guy." Kai said.
" Did any of you faint?" Harry asked whispering the last word.

" No but I did feel like I'd never be happy again." Ron said.
" Yes, I felt that to. Like all the happiness had been sucked from the world." Hermione nodded.
" Kai what did you feel?" Harry asked.
" Uh same as these guys." Kai lied expertly.
The three friends started talking again.

In all honesty Kai didn't feel anything. Sure she was scared, but she didn't feel what the others did. What was wrong with her?

" So Kai what house do you think you'll get?" Ron asked as they walked into Hogwarts.
" House?" Kai asked.
" Yes, there are four houses in Hogwarts. Gryffindor, the brave and true house. Ravenclaw, the intelligent and witty house. Hufflepuff, the kind and loyal house. And Slytherin, the cunning and ambitious house." Hermione explained.

" What house are y'all in?" Kai asked.
" Gryffindor." Harry answered.
" Okay that's fine. I'll be in that one too." Kai shrugged.
The three laughed.
" What?" Kai asked.
" You don't get to decide. The sorting hat does." Hermione told her.
" That's kinda stupid." Kai said.
" No, it's not. The sorting hat is never wrong." Ron told her.
" Alright, alright. Don't get your magic panties in a twist. If it's the way y'all do it here then it's fine." Kai said as they walked into the great hall.

A tall women wearing green walked up to the group.
" Potter, Granger, Weasley." She greeted.
" Hello Professor McGonagal. How can we help you?" Hermione smiled.
" I'm looking for a new student. Kai Romanoff, is that you dear?" McGonagal asked looking at Kai.
" It is." Kai nodded.
" Perfect. You will be sorted first. Come along now." McGonagal told her as she dragged her to the front of the Great Hall.

" Students are first sorting will be of new third year Kai Romanoff." Dumbledore announced.
McGonagal sat Kai down the stool and placed the hat on her head.

" Ahhh what do we have here. An intelligent girl I see. Yes with lots of ambition, and bravery. This is a difficult one. Tell me child what house do you think you belong in?" The hat asked.
" I really don't give a shit. Just sort me so all these people will stop staring at me." Kai told the hat.
" Hmmm I have my final decision. SLYTHERIN!" The hat yelled.

The Slytherin table clapped and Kai looked at her new friends. They all had shocked and disappointed faces. What was their problem? Kai got off the stool and walked to them.

" That was dramatic." Kai said.
" Kai what are you doing? You can't sit here, you have to sit with the other Slytherins." Hermione told her.
" Why?" Kai asked.
" Cause that's your house." Ron said.
" That's fucking stupid, I'm not doing that shit." Kai shook her head.

" Miss Romanoff. Please go to your respected table." A man told her.
Kai looked at the man behind her. He wore all black robes and had greasy black hair.
" Can't I just sit with the people I know?" Kai asked.
" No." He said.
" Why?" Kai asked.
" Miss Romanoff, you don't want to have an attitude with your head off house." He told her.
" Who?" Kai asked.
" Just sit over at that table for the next twenty minutes." He sighed.

" Fine. See ya later guys." Kai gave in.
Snape rubbed his temple before returning back to the teachers table. Harry couldn't help but smile adoring at the girl, she was like no other girl he had ever met. She was fearless.
