Buffering

"Right, so you guys are only to observe today. We don't know the surf here as well as we do back home, so that is your definite order. There are five stations, Chapmans down at first Post, deano and Tom at second, yatesy...." Terry informed, finishing up the morning briefing.

You didn't know if it was the heat or something else, but your hearing aids kept buffering the sounds and voices around you, which was really getting on your nerves.

"You alright?" Chappo enquired, noticing your confusion as you began to walk to your post which was about two kilometers down the beach.

"Yea, it just keeps cutting out." You responded.

"Well tell me if they completely go so I know." He told you.

"OK, I will. Do you know who else is coming with us to get our Balinese motorbike licence?" You asked. On the one hand, you were excited about ridink a motorbike, but on the other hand, you were absolutely terrified.

"It's just you, Tom and Harries, I got mine last time." Chappo responded nonchalantly, knowing you would have more questions.

"There is no way Mum let you ride a motorbike!" You exclaimed.

"But there is way that mum didn't and won't ever know."

Timeskip to next day:

This was the first day you were allowed to perform rescues and you couldn't wait to 'try out' the new surf.

You and Chappo were still eating breakfast when the time came for the lifeguard's daily briefing, so you let the others go ahead whilst you finished.

That was a bad choice.

A choice that meant you and your brother were now each doing twenty press-ups while about thirty people watched.

"Hoppo better not get any inspiration from this." Chappo said, going down for his seventeenth. You had already finished but decided to let him have a moment of victory after yesterday when 'Crazy' thought that Chappo was your Dad.

You were beside yourself with laughter, but Chappo was not pleased about someone thinking that he could have a twenty two year old daughter, even though seventeen would have been a plausible age to have a baby.

"Twenty!" Every in the room cried and you and Chappo could finally take your seats between Tom and Terry on the floor.

"Remind me not to be late again!" You muttured to Terry. He just laughed quietly.

"I think I did, on several occasions."

Timeskip:

You and Chappo were back at post one today, when you noticed four swimmers in trouble. Crazy, who you were stationed with, had gone to fix his radio so you both grabbed a board and ran into the water.

What you didn't realise were the many exposed bolts along each side of the rescue board. Let's just say they hurt like heck.

Chappo must have been experiencing the same problem because both you and him dismounted your boards at the same time to guide swimmers towards a sandbank. Luckily, they all made it out without injury, unlike you and your brother.

"Ah... Ah... Why does that hurt so much?" You seethed through gritted teeth, looking at the small cuts on both your's and Chappo's legs.

"I do not know, but I do know it flipping hurts!" He exclaimed as you began walked back over to the lifeguard's chairs near the water's edge.

"I'm concerned as to how our legs are going to look after six weeks of those boards."
