"Darling."

You were shaken out of your daydream by the voice you would have sworn was just your mind playing tricks on you had it not also been paired with the soft placement of a hand on your shoulder. You looked up to find Madam Rosmerta giving you a small smile, her thumb lightly rubbing your shoulder through your sweater.

"You know I hate to do this to you, but we're closing in five minutes," the shop owner told you.

"Already?" you furrowed your eyebrows.

"Sweetheart, you've been here for over three hours," she reminded you gently.

You looked at her incredulously for a moment before your eyes landed on the four empty glasses of butterbeer on the table in front of you. You sighed to yourself – you hadn't realized you'd been there that long – and looked back up.

"I'm sorry, Madam Rosmerta," you shook your head, "I didn't realize how long it'd been."

"It's alright, darling," she assured you, "Just be sure to get back to your dormitory before curfew." You nodded in response, getting up and quickly making your way back to the castle.

You thought you could make it to your room without any trouble; You thought you could make it without anyone bothering you. But, of course, because this was your life and nothing ever goes the way you hope, you ran into the one person you didn't want to see right now.

"Oi, mudblood, what do you think you're doing?"

You simply continued walking – maybe Draco would just think you didn't hear him and move on – but you should have known better; The Malfoys were not known to be a quiet bunch. You squeaked in surprise when a hand grabbed your elbow, forcing you to spin around and face Draco and his posse.

"Bloody brave of you to ignore your elders like that, don't you think?" Draco laughed dryly.

"Elders?" you repeated, your eyebrows furrowed in confusion.

"Elders, those better than you – same thing," Pansy rolled her eyes.

"You can't be elders; we're in the same year," you reminded them.

"Think you're bloody smarter than us then?" Crabbe reached over and shoved you lightly, causing you to stumble back a couple steps.

"What do you think you're doing out so late?" Goyle repeated Draco's question, "Shouldn't you be reading a book or participating in a spelling bee or something?"

"I was just... I was...craving some butterbeer..." you trailed off.

"In that outfit?" Pansy giggled humorlessly, "Bit too nice for a late-night Hogsmeade run, yeah?"

"Pansy, please," Draco laughed along, "Don't suggest she had a date! Who would believe that?"

"Probably covering the fact that she was alone on yet another Saturday," Crabbe insisted.
