The Baby Project

“Zac and Aly,” Mrs. Lee said. I crossed my fingers that I wouldn’t be with my crush. “Bradley and Rosa,” she continued to read off the names on the list. “Thomas and…”

Please don’t be me. Please don’t be me. Please don't be me. I chanted in my head.

“(Y/N),” she says. I sigh. Crap. I glance over at my best friend. She looks somewhat sorry for me for about a second then she burst out into silent laughter as Mrs. Lee continues. I give her a death glare then glance over at Thomas, who must have been staring at me since his eyes locked mine as I turned in his direction. I quickly looked away, blushing madly.

After Mrs. Lee finished reading off the partners, she told us to meet up with our partner and talk about a schedule for the rest of class.

Before I could even get up, Thomas was taking a seat in the desk beside me.

“Hey,” he said, calmly.

“Hey,” I said back.

“So shall we talk baby?” he asks.

“What?!” I asked. Did he just call me baby?

“You know, shall we talk about our baby?” he asked again. I just nod, kind of embarrassed. “Alright so I thought we can watch her together after school. Then she can sleep at my house every other night and yours the other nights,” Thomas says. I just keep nodding.

“Wait, how do you know it’s a girl?” I ask.

“Umm… I’m not sure. I just really want a girl,” Thomas says, shrugging. I giggle.

“Really? The captain of the football team wants to have a baby girl,” I say, laughing.

“Yeah, what’s wrong with that?” he asks, laughing too.

“Nothing. It’s cute,” I say. Oh no, did I just call him cute. I feel my cheeks heat up.

“So, you think I’m cute, now do ya?” Thomas taunts. I punch his arm and shake my head.

“No, I didn’t mean it that way…” I trail off.

“Huh, well that’s too bad,” Thomas says. I just ignore that comment and change the subject.

“So what would your daughter’s name be?” I ask.

“Well, our daughter’s name would be Azalea,” Thomas says, kind of shyly.

“Okay, so if we have a girl then her name will be Azalea, but what if it’s a boy?” I ask. I watch as his eyebrows furrow as he thinks.

“Please don’t laugh when I say this…” Thomas tells me. I nod, with a straight face. “Okay well, my favorite book is The Maze Runner…” I cut him off.

“No way! That’s my favorite book!” I say as I begin to fangirl that my crush and I have the same favorite book. “Sorry, continue,” I say, realizing he wasn’t finished. Thomas just smiles and then continues.

“So, like I was saying, that’s my favorite book. And I wanted to name our son after my favorite character…” Thomas trails off. I seriously think I’m falling in love this is guy.

“Yeah! That’s a great idea! Who’s your favorite character?” I ask.

“Newt,” he tells me.

“Oh my God! Me too!” I practically scream. Then we both start laughing uncontrollably.

“Alright so if we get a boy it’s Newt…” I cut him off.
